my gpu fan is being a dick. its been doing weird things for a long time now. but now its starting to interfere with my usual gaming activities, rather than being its typical loud annoying self. last couple of days mechwarrior online was doing the hard crash, taking down the whole system to a power down and reboot. at this point i decided that ethnic cleansing of the dust bunny population was in order. i picked out every fan grill in the system, blew out the video card heatsink like it was an 8 bit cartridge, and removed the fan for inspection. go figure the bearing is completely shot.
why computer fan bearings are damn near impossible to replace is beyond me (i actually have a lot of extra bearings laying around) and i dont know why they use such low quality bearings in the first place. anyway while i was in there i pulled the part number off of the fan and quickly found replacements for $12, a $12 fan does not normally die this fast, sure i would expect it from a 99 cent chinese fan, but not a $12 fan made by coolermaster. of course i am broke at the moment. visions of me using a hot glue gun and attaching a fan of ridiculous size to the heatsink shroud comes to mind (though this will likely get in the way of the wifi card).
it is somewhat convenient that this comes 3 weeks before i start my next build. its like the machine knows its about to be replaced in a few weeks and is currently seeking revenge. but it also means 3 weeks without performance gaming which sucks.
