  • Evolution and ascension.
It's :v:, which means it's canon, which means that it's factual in the FS2 universe. Of course it's only speculation, but :v: isn't just going to give you some complete BS at the end of the game.
Gettin' back to dodgin' lasers.

GTA and PVN because of the T-V War and one of the original Terran blocs because it would make for an interesting game being able to see Terran history in the making.

Nobody likes religious fanatics. They sometimes say cool things, but that's about it.

And who chose Pirates? They're useless sods.

1. GTVA - Terrans. Purely because of the officer in command being bossy, and the weapons you get.
2. HOL. maybe pure fanatics, but you got to love their sense of surprise.
3. Shivans. without a doubt a race that is hard to predict.

So someone finally picked the HoL, huh?

But I wonder why do people even choose pirates. They can barely put up a single fight and couldn't survive any more.

Besides, there are no pirates in FS1 and FS2. Only in Silent Threat, and only because the GTA and PVN were near colapse.

Remove pirates, IMO, because they only appear in 1 canon mission. The only reason people are choosing pirates is because of custom campaigns, not because of the ST mission. Remove them, or you may as well add the Ahmose Faction and McCarthy's Traitors.

Nah. Lobos might start to whine about this being a "rigged" voting. Let them have the pirates... People who aren't blinded by custom campaign non-canon-es won't vote for the pirates.

And Ahmose's and McCarthy's betrayals weren't big enough to be considered a faction.

Of course I might start to whine, but it does seem that more people whine about the fact that the pirates are on the list. Your poll, your call, jefe.

So far, I only noticed you and Snail say something about the pirates thing. Snail doesn't want them in. I don't want them in. 3 people voted for the pirates, and Lobo wants them to be in.

So the pirates stay...

Very well, but my point about people only voting for them because of custom made campaigns still stands. I doubt any of them even played that mission.

Let the kids have fun being with the pirates.

That is, until they realise that the "pirates" in FreeSpace would probably be so poor, that they'd fly Angels or Apollos during FS2, and be destroyed after every battle.

Well to be honest I have to disagree about them flying Angels and Apollos during FS2. In that Silent Threat mission, they were utilizing almost up-to-date military hardware, and were executing an actual plan, not a random attack on a random convoy. This is why I don't see pirates as just a horde of random criminals flying out of date ships, but an organized underground faction.

aww cannibalism :nervous:.

typically pirates in sci-fi are considered high tech, however don't have a clue. i bet if they knew what they where doing, that installion and warhead materials would be with the pirates, making things difficult for the terran or vasudan cruisers to travel safely.

So what, some guy said "I picked GTVA because they were cool in Blue Planet".
What's the difference between that and choosing pirates? They're both votes based upon custom campaigns.

Pirates for me do one thing, give the player something to shoot at when not in a war. Other people utilize them differently, but how can a person have any sort of peacetime campaign without pirates? After 10 missions of doing nothing but escorting freighters, or doing scanning missions any player is going to get pissed off (assuming the FREDder doesn't kill themselves before that).

And re: the HoL. They may not be a favourite faction but damn are they a ***** to fight. Playing through FS1 again, and really . . . what would you rather fight, Manticores with Heavy Lasers? Or Thoths with Prometheus Cannons. The HoL is ripping me a new one left and right. The rebel scum.

Manticores with Heavy Lasers. I just like to see them hit 120 m/s and fly in an arc across my screen. :drevil:
