Zeronet: It has two, launching towards the rear of the ship. You can't fly far inside them (in theory) but they're there :)

And yes, I know it resembles a phallic object - that wasn't the idea but I like the design :p

I'm going to test a clipping test version in FS2 in a few minutes. It's as accurate as I can get it without spending hours on it :)
I'll post a pic if it works (it's mapped badly at the moment so looks ugly :D ) I just need it mapped to test it.

Cheers! I've worked out the weapon mounts (more or less) although there's about 90 of them, I don't know how that'll hit the polys. Also if you need any help with it just let me know (oh and for reference it's supposed to be able 5 or 6 K in the game).

I'll send it to you now untouchable. You can do the lods as well if you want ;)
There was only 1 bit of clipping on the underneath that I could see, so its turned out not that bad. This version is 5.4km at 644 polys (because of the two 'array' things)
I suggest some smoothing when you map it :)

Hmmm I might have a go at this if you don't mind Woo. It's a cool ship design

It would look better with some sort of protrusions coming from the side, because, I'm serious, it looks like a giant, grey schlong!:D

EDIT: How about some side-mounted rotating AWAC arrays?

my personal recomendation: scale down the turret number, because while they are separate subobjects, (meaning that they dont effect the poly count of the model themselves) that many turrets means an equal number of destroyed turrets, which added together, means that putting it in fs2 is very unlikely to work out.  Even if you could get it into the game, the lag would be terrible once you got a running fight going.

Just out of curiosity, Thunder, what's the role of this behemoth of yours? Aside from being a personal sportscar, I mean. Supercarrier? Juggernaught?

I wish I'd run across this thread when it started. It would have been interesting to throw it together. Maybe I will anyway. *heh*

It's far bigger than my sports car in freespace, the 2374 Ford Mustang Scyros:

The look of that is really nice, Grey Wolf, but it looks like two models laid on top of each other. Perhaps if you were to work on the conjunctions so that the parts looked like they flowed together, it would look better. Regardless, I'd fly one. :)

The normal one in SHaS doesn't have the mustang symbol and is called the GTF Scyros.
(Hmmm.... maybe I should include the Mustang skin as an extra bonus thing.....)

did you actually build that model or did you just lay one model on top of another?

Nice model Grey Wolf 2009 :)

Woomeister - Excellent job on the ship, how closed to finish is it at this stage? There's a couple of things on the 3DS model I'd like to see altered in the final stage (mainly the hanger section but your the one modelling it  )

LtNarol - I may well scale down the turret number - but first I'd like to see how many polys the completed model contains... I could probably reclaim a lot by removing one of the Arrays and moving the other into the centre.

And finally here's some info on the TD Aquila for you all...

About:
The TD Aquila (or Terran Destroyer Aquila) was designed by Thunder with the aid of many of the Freespace community. It was created with a mind to making a personal flagship for Thunder, and to present a model of the highest possible quality for use by all in missions and campaigns. Aesthetic value played a high part since Thunder plans to use it heavily in his renders.

The TD Aquila is the first ship of its kind. Following the Capella nova and the second attempted Shivan invasion, the GTVA realised it had failed with the GTD Hecate class in it's capacity as both a carrier and a destroyer. Over-reliance on smaller ships mean't less space for automated systems and more manpower required - manpower that was sorely needed elsewhere in the Alliance.
To address this problem the GTVA commissioned the SOC and the most intelligent development engineers available to create a new, mobile base. Smaller than a Colossus but capable of carrying a massive array of combat wings and heavy beam cannon, the TD Aquila is the result of this research.
Measuring around 5 Kilometers and employing the very latest in fusion pile technology, coupled with the latest advances in weaponry,  armor, AWAC tech, shielding, automated systems and classified data gathered during the most recent Shivan incursion, the TD Aquila is the most formidable ship in the GTVA, capable of engaging any known warship and emerging victorious.
In honor of Alex Avery, the most distinguished Destroyer commander alive following the Capella nova, the first ship to leave the production line - The Aquila - has been given to him to command. Going by the alias of "Thunder" amongst his peers, Captain Avery has served the GTVA for seven years and overcome obsticals that lesser commanders would have run from.

Note that the above was lifted straigth out of an old readme I wrote - so some of it may have altered slightly.
