The Vishnans eet al from Blue Planet.

...for some reason, I imagine them to be great restaurant personnel. Don't ask.

((on that note, wondering what a Vishnan looks like now.))

Re: Those special FreeSpace moments...
The Vishnans do not have physical forms, unless you take Sam's hypothesis that they 'are the ships themselves'.

Hmm, FreeSpace moments. Unfortunately I don't recall much on playing the official campaigns, I even don't remember whether I survived the supernova the first time. My guess is that I didn't, I would think I was using an Ares. I can't remember. Probably 'Dive Dive Dive' was one, like everyone else, though.

Although there are times in user campaigns I'll remember.

- The nebula mission in the Proycon Insurgency. Just so well done, and so epic. One of the best atmospheres I've encountered. Also, dying so much in that campaign, damn it was fiendish!
- The second last mission in Blue Planet. Apart from the fact that it overwhelmed my laptop when I first tried it (and many tries after), it's also an epic mission.
- Derelict. All those snipes from Mackie. 'We damn well better, and I will duct tape it to my cockpit!'
- The ending of Homesick. Really shows how sometimes all your work can be for nothing. Also, the line that sums up whenever you encounter those black and red aliens again (in universe): 'Oh my God, Shivans!'

Can't remember much else at the moment.

Re: Those special FreeSpace moments...
Now that you bring another Mackie quote up, I just noticed that the term "duct tape" is used a lot in Derelict. ;)

I've just passed the level where Mackie delivered his famous paraphrase.

Yes, because the game can't handle that many different factions I think it sets everyone to "Traitor", as Traitors are enemies to everyone.  As a result, when I set of a Piranha, the little warheads all turn around and head straight for me.

Re: Those special FreeSpace moments...
The "save the Iceni" mission. Those Seraphim at the end always destroy it in difficult levels...

As for the piranha thing, that happens if you turn traitor in single player. It also works for all heat seekers if you can fly faster than them when they are fired at nothing. Then the missile detectors go off and "you have killed yourself with your own missiles".

As for the duct tape thing, that reminds me - who was that guy who claimed to have been "the first person to successfully mod a rubber duck into FS2"?
His legacy will last until the beginning.

On the topic of duct tape...

"I've got a wad of duck tape I'd like to shove up you ass."
That's one of my favorite quotes in Derelict. Especially how he says it.

Sorry

That was the LoneWolf and Mackie, right? Mackie said "Sorry" a second time later. Which dialogue was that?

I know which mission it's in, elie. I'm wondering which parts of it did those dialogues take place.

The one about duct tape came first. Then there was another dialogue where Mackie said, "Sorry" a second time.

That was in Scorched Earth, the mission where that pirate base was found destroyed. (By the Shivans; there's a bit of Mara debris about if you use target in reticule.)

Quote
Alpha 2: Geez, there won't be much for the Arbiter to pick up here, unless they use a sieve.
Lonewolf: Cut that out, Alpha 2. Have some respect for the dead.
Alpha 2: Sorry...

I find the thought of the Arbiter going through the wreckage with a big sieve attached funny, though. Does that mean I'm being disrespectful?  :nervous:
