Juggernaughts... never liked the design of either - and technically they both lack decent ship design.

Theres only one ship in FS that I truly hate and thats the SF Dragon hence my vote (the only one so far w00t!). A Failure to Communicate in FS1 drives me up the wall and chasing them down in FS2 isn't much easier.

I agree. Sometimes, if i'm tired (like 4:00 AM) it takes me 5 minutes to take down a dragon.

With the exception of the Aeolus and the Cain/Lilith (simply because they look cool and the Cain has a cool beam turret) I can't stand cruisers. They blow up easy and don't really pose any significant threat to anything. They're basically just cannon fodder.

I guess from a mission makers point of view a Juggernaut, considering that anything bigger then a corvette is hard as hell to make it move the way you want it to without bumping into things.

As FREDder I have to say transports. I once gave a transport a dock initial order in a mission I was making - It went 9 kms away, then turned and faced the ship, which was only about 2.5 kms from the transports starting point in the first place, and finally decided to dock.:doh:

The juggernaughts are all overrated.

They're just like battleships of today.
Sure, there's alot of power there, but a few good strikes by bomb/missle and they're gone.

The Bearbaiting mission was a good example of this.
Because without it's beam cannons the sath couldn't do jack to the Colossus.   Heck, I even got the points for killing that thing.  

The "C" made it out with 100%  Even though the cutscene says 80%.  *Grrr*

Either the C or Sath could have been taken out with two-four corvettes once their guns are gone.

Except that Bearbaiting isn`t a good example. The Sathanas has at least 200 fighters and bombers on board and yet we only saw a handful of fighters.
 It's like complaining that an air craft carrier isn`t worth building cause they can be destroyed fairly easily (Look! It doesn`t even have any cannons for taking out other ships. Put up a couple of frigates against it and the carrier would be dead!)
 The real power of a juggernaut is the fighters it has on board but for reasons of game balance (and cause the engine couldn`t take it!) we never got to see that.

The emphasis of FS2 for me has been on beam capacity and not fighters or bombers.

If it were why would Command be freaking out about taking out the beam turrets?
They'd be screaming for alpha to take out the fighterbays instead.

Now, if we were talking about fighters and bombers, then it'd get real interesting watching each destroyer launch 40 wings, dedicated carrier vessels would be throwing out 200 or so for screening the fleet from other fighters and bombers, etc...

It'd have more of a WWII aspect than it currently does.
Except that bombers can't fly "high" and out of flak range in space.

The reason why command doesn't scream for fighterbays to be taken out is because they didn't make the hanger subsystem destructible in the default FS2 ships :p

I hate the freighters...cuz freighters mean escort missions which mean taking down millions of waves of enemy bombers and defending the weak transports like argos and elysiums which just plain suck.

Now where's Hanger Man when a discussion like this is going on? :D
