Metal I don't like much just cause the vocals is hurty on my ears.

Or most power metal. Not all metal is composed of idiots mutilating their voices...



(on the other hand, some power metal bands have those really annoying high-pitched vocals... eary-bleedy)

Metal is just a blanket word that covers everything from ear-rapers to bloody operas.

In general, if it has double-bass drum rhytms, chances are its metal.

Read up on wikipedia about Metal, it might explain quite a few things.

Well there are silly fluffly little bands like Linkin Park - the so called "nu metal" bands, and more respectable bands like System that still fall into that "category"

Honestly though, I listen to a lot of Breaking Benjamin, Digital Summer, etc. which could, I suppose, be called metal. Really though, it's more of a post-grunge / rock kinda thing.

not really. "nu metal" doesnt have anything "metal" enough in it to be connected with metal in reality. breaking benjamin is more like emo-rock from what i've heard of it.
