We have a smiley for that. :nod: ;)

About getting your hands on 3dsmax; if you have experience with 2D/3D composition, I think it's a lot better than learning 3D content from scratch. But that's just me. ;)

Point taken...I'm gonna need a few pointers though...namely engine glows, planets, laser/beam fire, and perhaps even stars (right now, the only way I can make a glow effect is the lens flare...which doesn't look too good).

The Harrier came off nicely because of the light bleed. Everything looks cool with light bleed, I kid you not. That is, how something looks when a light is placed behind it - the way the light bleeds in front of it. :)

Razor? In PhotoShop, use the 'Screen' layer blending option. ;)

Looks better than my first render, which I currently cannot find.

Here it is!  Offical render number 2!  Uses beams, explosions, stars, planets, and nebulas.  Enjoy, even though it came out horrible...but hey, practive makes perfect, right?  o.O;;

Exactly. :) That's very nice. :yes: Keep at it - fool around with the settings in Solarcell. See if you can make your light points a little rounder. I think they look better with less distortion than you have on them now - but that's just me. ;)

If only I had Spire.  :D

Nah, what I'll need to do is make larger renders, work on the beams and lasers, and the engine glows as well.  Now here's a problem I had in this render, maybe one of you can help out.  The ships are actually set behind a light nebula cloud, which is why the engine glows came out so dark.  I wanted to put them in front of the nebula (so they wouldn't darken) but stil have thems et behind the ship (as not to make it look al screwy).  How would I do this?

Be careful here; bigger is SO not what it's all caught up to be (okay, so Century Battle 2 is the exception...). Focus on your smaller stuff, and put in detail like crazy. Now that is what will make you a good render artist - the size can come later. :)

As for the problem you have, unfortunately since it is a pretty isolated example, I would have to take a look at it myself to see what you mean. But what I can offer you in terms of advice on this matter is to, wherever possible, keep all the elements of your renders seperate, for as long as you possibly can, while making your WIP. If you must blend something, save a backup copy, then blend and save as a new copy. That way, you can always shift things about or delete them with much more ease. Use colorise and overlay maps to your advantage - they are editable, removable, and best of all, do not compromise image quality. Oh, and never underestimate the power of just a little blur. Never. ;)

If you've ever seen a play, you know how whenever the focus is on a few specific characters, the other actors are usually engaged in some sort of action that fits with their character? That's how a render should be. (IMHO)

Ah, but note that by larger, I meant pixel area size, not complexity.  Three ships will be my limit for a while (unless I'm making up impossing fleet scenes....muahahaha...).

That's exactly what I meant. 500*500 is a good dimension set to start with - it's really a very nice size. Even after I migrated from that, I still stayed on 900*500 - not large, but you can do things with it, and it's widescreen. Human eyes like widescreen. ;)

Wow, those are pretty nice for first renders, even if they are made with photoshop. I should probably get some program to use for rendering, I've done some renders with truespace, and either it, or I suck :D

Anyway, here's my first render for comparison.
