The thing is, you're probably going to kill a considerably larger number of bugs while driving than by consciously killing the individual critters. Should driving be banned as well?

The only bugs I kill are parasitic ones or germ carrier....that includes mosquitoes, coackroaches, fleas and flies.

But really.. PETA has gone insane.

Gone? They've been this stupid right from the start.

People seem to equate them with other anti-cruelty charities like the RSPCA but they're nothing of the kind. PETA's goal is, and always has been "the total liberation of animals from humanity's oppression" that includes the more common objections (animal cruelty, commercial whaling etc), the fringe ones (anti vivisection for testing of medicine, heavy promotion of the vegan lifestyle)  and the downright strange (Putting more animals to sleep than other rescue shelters do, equating factory farming with concentration camps or slavery, attempting to ban the ownership of pets and even guide dogs for the blind).

...not to mention the fact that they amazingly earn money thanks to their "ethical battles".

* BloodEagle doesn't consider flies to be animals.

And, really, PETA should be more concerned with this* than a single fly.

----

Here's an idea, someone (*wink-wink, nudge-nudge*) should release a few thousand roaches inside of PETA's HQ. I wonder how long it would take for the poison to start flowing.  ;7

*If I could navigate the FDA's... arduous website, then I would link to the statistics themselves, rather than that less-than-reputable-looking site. :/

That did spark a thought in my head. Guess who makes and sells the Katcha Bug?

Yep, this is a massive marketing stunt to sell a product PETA sell on their website.

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
I'm impressed Obama had the hand speed to catch the fly. I can barely kill one without a swatter. Mosquitoes are easier to kill with bare hands. I bet he'd always be the first guy to buzz in on quiz shows or something.

There's a nifty item that's being sold here where I live, it's shaped like a tennis racket but actually acts like a portable mosquito/insect killer. You push a button and it gives off an electric current that fries the little insects. The thing's either powered by battery or you plug it in and recharge it. If the juice is running low, the current isn't strong enough to kill the insects, but enough to stun them, like an insect taser. Then you can step on them while they're writhing on the ground.

Yep, I hate mosquitos. They gave me Dengue Fever when I was 5 so I kinda have a grudge.

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
I usually try to extradite bugs and spiders etc. out of the house unharmed, but that's my personal choice. I wouldn't really go around telling people off for squishing a few flies or something. :)

I do that most of the time, too. Although once, a spider bited me (similar to mosquito bite, it itches). So I killed it.

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
I sometimes thoroughly enjoy bug hunting, like sometimes waiting next to a garbage container outside and using a fly swatter on each one that lands. You could make a game out of it. Fat (pregnant) flies are worth 5 points while small ones are worthy 1. I don't make points out of it but one could do that. It is also fun to cut slugs with scissors or clippers. I recall putting a praymantis on my train set when I was about 8 and putting a lighter below a fly and spider a few times.

neagtive points earned.

If you gotta kill ANYTHING, do it fast and as painless as possible.

Oh I used to have one of those! Much fun, especially using it on humans. :nervous:

Oh yes, I remember once in year 8 I caught some bug in the process of stinging/biting me. That hurt when I pulled it off and killed it.

Actually, perhaps the fly was 'stuned'. Happens rarely, but sometimes they fly slower and they're easier to catch.
