Re: Pirate Bay going legit
You guys ever stop to consider that maybe there are other ways to pay for it besides actually contributing money?  It's entirely possible they pay by putting in commercials, or advertisements, but we don't have to actually put one cent into anyone's pockets.

It's a possibility, but I guess the assumption is that they will follow in Napster's footsteps. Plus, aisn't ad revenue declining on the interwebs because of adblockers?

By the way, will the name be changed at all, seeing as how it won't be full of pirates anymore?

No way. It'd be better if they did. Corporate types seem to have very weird ideas about what makes things popular.

The copywrite nazis generally consider other business models to be a threat, nevermind that such things are a fundemental part of capitalism.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

The copyright Nazis don't believe in capitalism. They believe in GiveMeMoneyism.

Oh, the irony. The company attempting to acquire The Pirate Bay is now under scrutiny for suspicions of insider trading.

Boystrous 19 year old temp at work slapped me in the face with an envelope and laughed it off as playful. So I shoved him over a desk and laughed it off as playful. It's on camera so I can plead reasonable force.  Temp is now passive.

Pirate Party =/= Pirate Bay. Two different entities, very loosely related.

AWR AWR AWR

Man.. I don't even care too much. I think violating copyright and stealing are wrong, but I don't lose any sleep over torrenting movies and shoplifting make-up from wal-mart. Not like if I was taking candy from babies or something. And even then, if it's an ugly baby and the candy is blue raspberry, screw the kid, it's MINE.

Re: Pirate Bay going legit
Yeah, I kinda agree with iamzack. With TPB, I knew what I was doing was wrong, and really the only time I ever tried to rationalize it was for sake of argument. But I never really felt bad about it. Maybe I'm the sociopathic cancer that's choking the gaming industry and putting people out of work, and I'm an evil blight on society.

If people want to stop piracy, then trying to put up "walls" won't help. They need to make people not want to pirate, and "You wouldn't download a car" propaganda doesn't work.

Why? If you could download a car you could just upload yourself where you needed to go so no car required.

...and hope the place where you want to go to doesn't have a firewall... :P

OT: Pirating stuff is bad, but so are copy-protect-crap like securom other stuff like that wont let you play a game that you actually paid for, because it doesn't like your DVD drive or the fact that you have a burning software installed.
