I've decided to buckle to this one - as soon as the server change is done and I can access the vB control panel again I'm going to setup a Freespace Forever forum for your specific use. Note that this is a short term thing untill you guys find your own space or another forum, but untill then things are gonna get kinda crowded here between general topics and FF topics. Consider it a late easter gift

Note - I haven't talked this over with any of the other staff since they're all offline at the moment, hopefully none of them will object.

If you have anything important to say on this, say it here :)

Well... hosted forum yes - the project still isn't hosted by us (though the offers there if they make a site). But this kinda thing is worthy of a forum, it seems to be growing at a rate that requires a forum, not just some one-shot topic.

And your welcome Kaz - if you read this on the 13th, sorry I'm not replying to your ICQ but it keeps timing out at my end.

One question...as much as I understand you are all trying to make an engine for FS2...I am expecting some sort of story will be going with that...which one? :headz:

I think it's a bit early for them to be thinking about the story already....
Hey Inquisitor, are you accepting applications for story/plot writers? Or just management and programming?

I think the story should be the first one discussed since maybe later on you do make the engine, however later on you kill eachother over the story plot, because we know that that is where everyone's opinion branches. Everyone has their idea of how FreeSpace continues after FS2, or even ends. The unusual thing about this project IS that there are more people with talent in it reporting to volonteir their time, than the people who have good ideas (and realistic dammnit:mad: ) for a story.

Besides we all know that usually projects stop because there are not enough people to be making the campaign. You got 2 modders and 2 FRED'ers and 10 story makers...

This is not being critical, I'm just trying to give headz up to whatever problems there might be in the future (assuming this takes off, which it looks very promising, since I don't understand A THING you people are posting about the tables, POFS, PDFS, C plus, or whatever they are ;))

Just a thought at this stage guys - you'll have to take the story into consideration once the engine is better developed. There's no point in wanting 4 kinds of subspace that can be jumped between at the pilots wish if the engine can't do it and so on, you know?

That was just a random example, all I'm saying as someone who's done this before is don't get ahead of yourselves. Plan Plan Plan and set small targets to hit at every step of the way. That way you make more progress and things actually get done. You don't want to get bogged down with story discussions now if it means nothing else gets done (OR - get your team sorted, get a concept and story team as well as the programmers of the engine and talk to eachother, work out what can and can't be done then whilst work on the engine is being done the story writers can come up with ideas, concepts and so on).

And what about... no story? A 100% mod based engine, et voila. It can be packed with a campaign, sure, but otherwise, story free stuff?

I suggest an IRC channel, or perhaps an ICQ contact list thing with everybody talking... or some other IM software. Whatever you do, the forum is a wee bit slow to have a working discussion of story elements versus programming possibilities and whatever...

Well the thing is totally at your disposal of how to do it. Great points there, I just wanted to give a headz up, since no one brought up the word "story" by now, and it is a 5 page thread back there...Just want you to get all of it in perspective ;)
