PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
So I was standing out on the field today (being of Sri Lankan parents, I'm obligated to have a small collection of Junior League Cricket competition trophies), and wondered how many HLP-ers play sport. High School P.E. classes don't count. :D

As for me, I'm a man of Cricket, Rugby Union and Touch Football, with a bit of Tennis and cross-country running to keep fit.

Re: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
I used to play squash and badminton a few years ago but since moving in with my now wife i haven’t had the spare cash (i need a new racket as mine has a good curve going) and a few years before that i did horse riding which i earned a few rosettes at local competitions.

These days the only exercise I get is when I have to walk or run somewhere  :nervous: :warp:

Re: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
I don't partake in sports per-se. But I ride a bike to work and back every day, distance to one direction is 4.5km or 5.5km depending which route I am in mood of taking. So by average I cycle 10km a day, takes 15-25 minutes depending on whether it is summer or winter and what road condition is. In addition, I try to exercise for about an hour maybe three to five times a week. Basic stretches, squats, abs and then use a pair of 5kg weights to train some muscles.

I'm not half-bad at Ultimate Frisbee, but I don't play regularly. That's the only sport I can play, in any case.

Re: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
When I was in high school I participated in Football(American) and Wrestling, good times both of them.  Now that I'm out of school I'm a practitioner of German Longsword and Kendo.  I also try to jog in the warmer weather generally topping out at about 10 miles.  Once my toenail heals from breaking it during indoor office hackey sack i intend to pick up a hand to hand.

Hmm...Right now, I currently practice archery (member of FITA), play dodgeball and paintball (when I can), and dabble a little in martial arts (used to do a bit of Kendo, might pick up either Tai Chi or Shao-Lin Kung Fu this summer). :D

Re: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
Do these threads pop up periodically or what?

Let's see:
Skiing (skating style, on winter) - once/twice a week, about 15-20 km by each time (1-2 hours).
Running and jogging when there isn't snow by the same amount as above.
Stretching and basic muscle exercises - three times a week, 45 min each. Includes exercises for push-ups where one doesn't let feet touch the ground (planche). And splits.
Breakdancing - once a week, 1.5 hours.
Kung fu - once a week, 1.5 hours (used to be a lot more)
Wall climbing - twice a week, 45 mins - 75 mins each.

That does about 12 hours / week.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that I don't own a car. I use a bicycle inside the city. So I should also count the hours which come along the week for all the transportation...

Re: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. OH NOES.
I voted for Snuffleupagus because I don't exercise a lot. The only "exercise" I'm currently doing is a seven-minute walk to and from work every day, and at least twenty push-ups in the morning once every three days. It pales in comparison to what everyone else is doing here.

I love walking to bits, though. I can walk, and walk, and walk for hours on end and not get tired of it. During my vacations, that's what I try to do every morning: a 40-minute walk to the beach, 20-minute walk along the beach, and 40-minute walk back.

Thanks to the physical education lessons I've had when I was in primary, secondary school, I've tried almost all of the most common forms of exercise, including running, cycling, soccer and basketball, but by the time I turned 15, I realised that the only form of exercise that I really like is long-distance walking. On certain occasions, I would forgo public transport just to walk home.

If I'm released from work earlier, that's exactly what I'll do: spend an hour and walk 3.5 km home instead of spending 20 minutes covering 3.5 km in a bus.

I do some medieval sword fighting. Not sure if this counts as a sport.

Sounds cool. :)

I swam in high school; wasn't the fastest guy on the team but always managed to make the cut... Still swim occasionally, but I'm still trying to get back onto a more rigorous regime. Ooh, I also did Taekwondo for several years quite some time ago- got my black belt, but stopped after that.

Also do some wight lifting, trying to get stronger, again, need to get on a regime.

Right now, my major form of exercise is walking around campus- it adds up pretty rapidly, but not sure exactly how much.

Each to his own I guess. I have never been good at doing something at slow speed for a long time. But this actually reminded me of a very important lessons I have learned and share it here too, there are some people specific things that good instructor should take account. From personal experience, I have just learned that my heart rate goes higher faster than the average, but then again I can sustain a considerably longer period on higher rates. This, for example, if not taken into account, can cause bad results.

Androgeus, it is hard to say what could be good to you from the small amount of information, but you could try jogging at low speeds, not much faster than walking. The idea is that you should be able to talk to other person, while your breathing should not be audible. Perhaps you are naturally constructed for things that require a low amount of force, but good endurance? And lastly should the above be interesting to you, try and find someone who is good at endurance and ask him.

My personal experiences of primary and secondary school physical education were pretty bad. Any kind of advice was pretty much nonexistent because the physical education teachers were kind of jacks of all trades, but masters of none. The good advice started only when I started to meet people that participate in European/World level competitions.

And I do have quite a collection of memories in the personal experience library of what not to do.
