weed is awesome. of course the worst thing about weed is the people you have to buy it from. still if you legalized weed, there would still be drug cartels pedaling meth, cocaine, heroin and crack, and then youd have the marijuana trade in countries where its still illegal. you still have the sex trade and the black market to deal with.

however, for example, in mexico, the majority of the cartel's revenue is from weed sales in america.
If the US legalized it, that'd definately up the pressure to do so in canada, and then possibly the EU aswell, maybe.  and that'd be a major blow to the cartel's revenue when people no longer have to go to sketchy people on the street for it.  but that's long term, and not quite on topic. 
its *nice* to see they a southern american gov't doing something about this issue, hope they don't give up if it doesn't turn out ideal.

i would love to see marijuana legalized. but if you take away sales from the cartels, they will only move those resources into other markets.

And now for the results of what the police apprehended and they're impressive to say the least:

- 35 tons of marijuana
- 250 kilos of cocaine
- 208 kilos of material for packing drugs
- 25 kilos of crack
- 1.806 vials of "lança-perfume" (a local drug)
- 135 weapons including rifles, 11 machineguns .30 and one .50
- 350 vehicles in total (320 of these are bikes)

The sites below show the results but they're in portuguese, I couldnt find any international news site covering this, the last link shows pictures of the whole operation including apprehended weapons, etc.

If you're buying weed from shady people on the street, then i gotta say you probably never done it before, and that you're doing it wrong.

Brick weed from Mexico and hydroponics or "dank" stuff grown in the US is quite different.  Mexican brick weed is dry and compressed and usually sells for less than $200 / oz.  Stuff that's grown in the US is usually a tad moist and 3D - the buds of the flower are not compressed.  This stuff goes for $400-$450 / oz.  The Mexican **** burns your lungs, probably has fertilizer or rat poison sprayed on it, and contains far less than 10% THC.  The good stuff smokes smoothly, you know it's not cut, and can contain up to 20% THC - so you can smoke less.  It's almost an entirely different market really, I don't think a lot of people understand that for "marketing" purposes, there are two different drugs out there.

I don't want anything from a Mexican drug cartel a) I don't want to support that kind of violence, and b) it's inferior product and has the capability to make me very sick.

when i was in az we usually got the bricked mexican weed, it was cheap, very cheap, and it was everywhere. its not bad, you usually smoke more of it, and can afford to because its cheap. sometimes it has some interesting psychoactive characteristics that sneak up on you. the downside is you feel like crap the next day.  this alaskan/canadian stuff is ****ing expensive. couple hits is enough to get you pretty high. of course you could smoke it all night and feel totally fine the next morning. so ive had both ends of the spectrum. i havent smoked much since i decided to become a antisocial psychotic shutin, so my sources are kinda nil right now.

I always buy weed from people i trust and know; usually this means buying straight from the grower. The only time i don't buy straight from the grower is when i can't. Then i just have one of my friends pick it up from said grower.

Buy the stuff that wasn't born out of violence and border hopping, and assure quality. Buying something from someone you don't know can be a good way to buy something sketchy like some bud with some lead dust to make it heavier and sell it for more money (and toxic).

The cool thing with marijuana is that if you want to switch who you support with your money in exchange for it, is that you can. A lot of people are growing it these days.

Come on, it Obviously was sarcastic. I was joking on the two countries standards\levels of morality: "So much higher than them", "honest living", good vs bad, and social acceptance.

Not a brain fart, all I know about Brazil is its name. Cant mistake a city in Mexico(assuming its there) for Brazil in that case.

dont have a basement, i live in an apartment. i think i know enough about hydroponics to get a small grow op going. maybe stick it under the stairs or in a closet. i knew a grower who swears that miracle grow and ph adjusters is all you need. few fishtank pumps and some large plastic containers, some agrofoam, and some led arrays, and i think that should cover it. i could dump my foliage in the woods and my liquid waste in the ocean. yep i think i could pull it off.

now if only i knew where to get seeds from.
