So, my current main server just went through a major overhaul, as the old admin team got tired and retired their server.  Some other players, including myself, took it upon ourselves to rebuild the server, and I have just realized that our new admin/supervisor crew is full of mad scientists.  Allow me to share with you our latest catastrophic event.

We use FalseBook, a mod that allows signs to perform complex redstone functions, and to do a few other crazy things, like shoot arrow barrages.  One of our supervisors took the arrow barrage IC and tied 8 of them to a pulsar.  If you have no idea what a pulsar is, it's a set of redundant redstone torches where two oscillate well past burnout speed, but once one does burn out, another takes over and keeps the system going until that one recovers.  Effectively, the system never stops, and attains a clock rate much faster than any normal RS clock.  As you can imagine, this spammed arrows like none other.   It spammed so many arrows that just logging on near his base caused the server to crash.  We tried desperately for over an hour to approach his base and remove the machine, but it was a veritably impregnable lag fortress.  If you could see the arrows, it was too late for you.  All seemed hopeless.

Until we hatched a daring plan.  In a multi-pronged attack, we removed the FalseBook plugin and attempted to spam our /remove arrow command to make insertion into his base safe.  We lost several men in the process, until one of our admins was able to acquire distance just enough that they didn't cause a crash, yet could still remove the arrows.  Then, the ground team struck.  Once inside, the machine was swiftly and decisively destroyed, allowing normal operation to resume.

All in all, that weapon created over 67,000 arrows before it was destroyed, and had a fire rate (probably much) greater than 1000 arrows per second.

Well that's a lot more awesome than me lagging the server (As I wait for the Fenris server to update) of its players out by flying to 128Y and killing myself on top of another player resulting in the release of 100,000+ experience orbs.

Removed the most left bed (left seen from when facing the beds) in Fenris station as it spawned mobs when sleeping, it has for ages even pre-change. Instead it now has a jukebox I made from my own diamonds for all to enjoy, leaving still plenty of beds.

Recommended craftbukkit build 1185 for 1.8.1 just got promoted.

And before anyone asks, yes, I'm sure the respective admins for the two servers discussed here are going to update.  No, no one knows when.  No, it's not a drop in replacement.  Be freaking patient, OK?  It will be done when it's done.

You want a server that crashes a lot more and potentially causes you to loose that stack of glowstone and diamonds?  Then by all means, try running a server and not testing the plugins fully with a new build.  Otherwise, relax and have a fresca, it will be done.  :)

POSIX is fine, as is Rev or RP

1.8(.1) is a big change, so given that a larger influx of users will now test and probably find another bug or two still, I wouldn't be surprised if that rec. build will get another update soon.

On strongholds: All Strongholds are located at random in a circle between 640 and 1152 blocks from the origin, 0/0. Due to the generation algorithm[10], the Stronghold proper may extend further in or out of that circle. The three strongholds are spawned at equal angles from the center point of the world (that is, each stronghold is 120 degrees from the others, measured from the origin).  :wtf:

So...  :drevil:

Guess turning the island into a stronghold, with a ruined castle going underground might make for a very nice self-built alternative! With just a few torches it could spawn mobs and I'm willing to place random chests now and then with my own content. Might also be a nice place for the haunted house idea Qaz and I gave some brief thought weeks ago. ;7

Also new 1.9 critter, the Mooshroom and Snow Golem, appear in the new upcomming shroom and excisting snow biomes! Snow Golems are player made, and serve as a pet/sidekick much like wolves, they throw snowballs, presumably to knock-back enemies. (click images for info)

Oooh, that's cool. Sadly, Strongholds are kinda meh without any tampering with, in singleplayer, I found one and all it had were a couple chests with apples or coal.

I think that's why there's only 3 per map now and infinite in 1.9. That means the unexplored map isn't littered with strongholds and Notch and/or Jeb can make them more interesting for later.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

If Qaz, others and I get the haunted house up ever, it'll be amazing, moving walls etc to confuse the player, plateaus to jump on that retract and reappear through timing, mobs jumping you, waypoints with food to recover, you name it.

They do, sure. But the actual strongholds themselves are fairly uninteresting.

Not that I had meant that the mineshafts going through them were interesting, I find it pretty annoying actually. I'd enjoy being able to see the entire interior without other structures getting in the way.

It's about the only fair way to find them, by exploring mineshafts which link to eachother until finding a stronghold.

Time to hold our horses. Apparantly 1.9 is out REAL soon and 1.10 also very soon. Are they pulling a Firefox? I'm playing 1.9 pre-release now, it has Nether strongholds/dungeons with new mobs. The Nether is really turning into a dangerous elite-area. It seems to become a zone where inexperienced, unskilled and underequiped players would best not venture alone (or go there at all), but mobs have new drops which seem to make it rewarding to risk your life and inventory in the Nether. Zombie pigmen now drop gold nuggets, which when combined give you gold bars. There's some flying fire ghost who shoots a chain of 3 fireballs which don't explode, but still put you on fire, they are as big as the player so they also attack you in narrow spaces unlike ghasts who need a lot of room. There's also a variant of slime, called a magma cube. They harrass you also. A new nether mushroom is found also called Nether Wart but it's not certain what it does yet. Villagers now occupy NPC villages but do nothing but stare at you, they're probably uncoded since opening the door of their home makes them walk into the wilderness and they do not react when attacked. Mobs leave them alone entirely.

On a funny note, someone made a Herobrine mod. With it Herobrine can come out of nowhere, though rarely, to probably harrass you.
