I'd love to try it at some point, if I can figure out how to do it.

And it may be moot, because I don't think it's the doors.  I tried sleeping with first one, then the other door in the open position, like the wiki said...and I was jumped by a zombie each time.  This literally makes no sense.  Everything inside is very well-lit, and there are no gaps for anything to wander in...and yet they keep wandering in.  It can't be my bed, since if I so much as block off the cave entrance with dirt, it doesn't happen.  At this point, I'm just putting the door between the cave and the house back up, until I can figure out what the hell is going on.

Are mobs spawning on top of the under-construction wall of your house?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. I'd suspect that, but the only wall my bed borders is well more than a block thick, and I think the other side of that is in the caverns, which are very well-lit.  Besides, before I started building the house, I slept in that bed multiple times without any issue.

I haven't seen them do so, but even if they were spawning there, after I closed off the ceiling, there shouldn't have been any way for anything to get in.  I'm about ready to just grab a bunch of screencaps and see if you guys can find something I'm missing.

-snip-

Easiest way to fix the mobs spawning in your bed thing is to either molest them, or extend your wall outwards by 1 block, or make it thicker by 1 block. May need to make it 2 if it keeps happening. Mobs can spawn in through the walls if the bed is within 2 blocks of darkness (this includes diagonals)

urgh why do people not read that my bed is not within two blocks of darkness :p

In any case, the simple act of putting the door back on my little cave stopped things.  I also set up a little fence and gate outside the front of the house, and I was able to leave my front doors open all night without any problem.  I still have no idea what caused it, though.  Maybe those double doors really are buggier than the wiki suggests.

Mongoose, I've had the same problem a couple of times on my singleplayer worlds -- a bed would be fine to sleep in for several nights, the room containing it safely enclosed and I *always* put my beds at least one block away from any walls.  And then suddenly and without any apparent cause a night would come when mobs would spawn when I sleep, and once it started happening I could find no way to fix it.

I'm thinking there has to be some other bug that isn't well known, because in your case and mine it is not related to the well known mobs-spawning-through-walls glitch.  I've started using piston-doors to solve the problem.  If you want to try it out, just learn how to make an XOR gate, which isn't too hard.  I'd say pop open a creative world and test it out on ground level first and see how it works.  Actually to be honest I have no ****ing clue how it works, only that it does. :P

Hoo boy...I took a single class of assembly, but this is pretty crazy looking. I have been thinking about starting up a creative world just to fool around with things, so we'll see.

And yeah, this whole bed thing is just something that started happening out of nowhere for me too.  At least the gate and/or extra door seems to have stopped it, for the moment.

Funny. The times that I'm on, nobody else usually is. I've been pretty busy as of late, though.... since you asked.  :P

Thanks to CP for showing me around his awesome castle and sundry, and for the minecart.  I had a total Keystone Cops moment when I pushed it and it took off without me.

I would like to set up shop somewhere on the server, though I don't know that I'd build much more than a lean-to at the moment.  From the dynmap, it looks like there's quite a bit of open space in the general vicinity of everyone else, but I don't want to get in the way of anyone's future plans.  Is there any spot in particular that I'd be okay with plopping down in?

Hop on my rail and head north, tons of open space up that way. If you want to build along it, Ill build a station for you.

Okay, something's seriously messed up on my end. Every time I try and log on (this has been going on for weeks now), I either time out, or when I don't then I spawn with no terrain anywhere and fall forever into the void before an error sends me back to the main menu. More recently I've managed to spawn with terrain under my feet, but it extends all of 3 or 4 blocks around me with void everywhere else. And then I time out. :(

As soon I set up my basic outline and main roads, you people can start building mansions, houses, towers (and whatever fits a medievali-sh fantasy setting) inside my city. As long as it fits of course.

Of course, it might take a few more days for me to set it all up. Or I cna do it faster. Depends.

Man, I love the rail system you guys have, even if I don't really know how it works yet.  I'm currently trying to find the area Swantz mentioned, though I started off on the wrong set of rails the first time.  On the plus side, I think I ran down a cactus that happened to be extending over the tracks, since it randomly appeared in my hand.

Edit: I found a spot to settle down near the end of the northern rail line; there's a big chunk of unoccupied land just to the south and west of the northern stronghold.  Lots of cool mountain and cliff features.  I'm in a little rectangular cave at the bottom of a valley, so we'll see how things go from there.

Most people don't know how the rail system works, though I can claim I've ridden on over 80% of all rails.

Also things may not always seem as they appear. If you go exploring some of the caves around there, you may find that the majority are lit up by torches and probably stripped of resources.
I may or may not have anything to do with that. :nervous:
