To be honest, I didn't get involved with the whole thing, haven't been on much lately, just heard that you were leaving from Yoko. I'm still working on getting the spare computer running a lightweight server, probably able to handle 5-6 people at a time, but possibly with some client-side mods required. You three will, of course, be invited to it when it is running

It really doesnt take much to run an MC server, a 2.0 Core2Duo with 2gb ram will easily handle 10+ people if your net connection can support it.

Yeah, it derped out a bit earlier when I was on.  It always seems to do that right when I'm in the middle of something semi-productive; I assume the stack of cedar wood I was using will have vanished whenever we can get back on.

Hey, my roomie (uses the MC username Sun_Shadow) asked me to speak up. Him and I suspect that his location of about 5 klicks out from center is causing issues. Mind you, I'm acting as his mouthpeice, and he's asked for his last position and possessions to be moved closer to the spawn. I don't know anything about the adminning business, but this certainly seems feasible, and there is a pattern of server problems when he gets on.

I have noticed a few crashes right after Sun Shadow joins the server.  I can't see why someone logging in 5000 meters from spawn would be any different than someone logging in 1000 meters away as far as the game is concerned, but given Notchcode, I guess anything's possible.

I noticed the same thing with orcinus though, and his base is *very* close to the spawn, closer than any of the rest of us. It's more likely something to do with their connection than their physical location in the server.

5000 meters/blocks shouldn't be anywhere close to Farlands, right? The server's world itself is massive as well.

Just tried the server. They refuse to speak to you when you join, and you get no permissions.

I liked your server much more.

well, i at least spoke to folks, but i was very restrictive about permissions at first too, griefer paranoia and all that

anyhow, if i manage to procure some components i might be starting it back up.

since i got 4 gigs of ram and a hdd to spare, the only components are a cpu, mobo, case and psu. looking for the cheapest (new) components around here, it'd come out at around 153€ or $206.

if i could get used components at non-retarded prices, it'd be glorious, but as far as it looks like thats a "hell no".

so, no server of mine for now.

How does this look? You can replace the hdd/ram (if your ram is ddr2, if not 2gb is enough for an MC server anyway) and its well below that price for the parts, although it is obviously used and older.

yeah, well, i'd go for it if the customs wouldnt slap me like a little ***** for it (and they might, and if they do, i'm talking $100 of import taxes for the pc + whatever else they want to tack on...), so yeah. altough, the offer does actually look rather good.

he's the guy who offered to take over hosting when i had to return the pc i was using for hosting the previous server.

afterwards, he simply refused to give me admin access to the server stuff so i could mess around with plugins, permissions or anything out of game.

then my fuse blew and i removed myself kindly from the premises.





also, just for the record, if anyone is willing to chip in, i can cover half the cost of the components i have in mind, and if anyone has spare **** lying around, well, yeah.

if not, oh well.

the non-hamachi thing is what i ran. you basically have a machine thats always on, has port 25565 (or whichever) forwarded to it, you get a dyndns.org hostname, run minecraft, profit.


pm me if you have a machine thats actually capable of being dedicated to minecraft serverage

and yes, i can actually run a server right now, but i want to use my PC for other stuff as well, and i want to sleep in the same room.


(i hate the fan whirring noise. no matter what i do i never have enough money for that perfectly quiet-yet-powerful-enough pc... )
