Loved how you completely dwarfed that guy's tower by making the rail dive into the ground right in front of it. Certainly puts his work to shame.
Tho I have to admit the view when you're travelling on it is pretty good...you just need to think harder about it's placement.
I can't win.
I put it
there because tommoex didn't want to see the skyrail going past his magnificent treehouse (not being facetious there - it really is quite the sight, and a shame that skyrail travellers won't be able to see it). The tower you mention was done by one of tommoex's friends - someone I've never seen on the server. If he complains, I'll come to an understanding with him - just like I have so far with tommoex and TrashMan.
My goal with this skyrail is not to antagonize anyone at all. There are 3 main goals:
1) To help people access the more distant areas of the server. This is not in a sense of "Let's build
everywhere!", but more in a sense of "There's areas out there that are devoid of life and ripe for one of us lone hermits to settle-down in - let's make that feasible." The stations will only be every 1000 blocks (which is the distance from spawn to New TrashMania, for example), so it's not going to be a dense network.
2) To be a predictable method of transportation. As much as possible, the rails will go in the cardinal directions out from spawn, with stations once a kilometer, as mentioned above. This is to help people get to a general area - it's completely up to the people residing there if they want to connect their local skyrail station with their homes or creations. These rails won't twist and turn in unpredictable directions, so if you want to go east, you simply hop on the rail pointing in that direction. Don't get me wrong, the existing rails are great for sight-seeing and as a naturally-grown network - it's just hard to figure out where you're actually going on them.
3) To allow people to
see the sights while they're travelling. This is one of the reasons why it's a
skyrail and not a subway or Nether-rail. The latter are ok when you know the name of your intended destination - you simply follow the signage and end up there. The skyrail will be for those people who look at the dynmap and say "I want to go west."
Turning my throen room into an obstacle course is funny...well, not really.
How about getting rid of all the stuff you built? I don't want to spend half an hour cleaning up your mess in my house.
Done. For the public record, myself, Pred, and tommoex are the guilty ones.
I think tommoex took a video of the process...
