How do you fill your time?
I've hit another low point I think... I'm bored pretty much all of the time. I feel this way every so often and so I start something new. And I totally consume whatever that is and then I'm bored again... sometimes it takes months or years but it happens. And I do these things concurrently with other interests.

So right now... I work, I eat, I sleep, I go for a run and when friends have time we hang out. Friends are all busy being married, getting married, or hanging out with their significant other. They are great at being inclusive... but they just don't have the time to hang out anymore. Me on the other hand have tons of time so I've tried to fill it with whatever I can but the fact remains that I'm still bored. I used to belong to a couple of casual sports teams but people are unreliable and don't show up to the games. To the point that all of the teams I belong to have folded.

So... any good tools out there to find people to hang out with for activities... events... whatever? How do others fill their time? I assume most are like my many friends who are really quite busy. Me... not so much.

Tried picking up a musical instrument? Piano is pretty kick ass if you have access to one (or the desire to spend lots of money), if not there are plenty of cheap other instruments you can find online.

During the semester: What free time?

During my off-weeks: hang with any friends in town, do projects I can't do during the semester, see my family, do lots of nothing

I dance.  I fence.  I FRED.  I write.

Aside from the odd hanging out with friends, that's about it.

Oh, and I march.

Discounting actual work activities...webcomics, reading, games, girl I'm married to.

Reading should not be taken to mean books. I do most of my reading online, either fiction there or, of later, going to Kugu and browsing threads there for the glorious uncontrolled flamewars and crap posting about EVE.

There's probably more than a few projects that could really use your Ancient Wisdom and 1337 skills. Machina Terra was looking for help about a year ago, but I dont know if they still are.

Finish BWO!  BlackDove is in dire need of assistance, and you have both the knowledge and the time to bring to the table.

Re: How do you fill your time?
I'm always drawn back to HLP when I'm on break from university.  Other than that: Books, beer, TV, violin, weed, Freespace. . .Sometimes I'll pick out a random Linux distro to install to my other partition, just to play with a different one.

If you're fairly bored but still working a decent amount, you could try cooking.  Something you have to do anyway, but if you've got the time you can try to make some good stuff.

And yes,
i stare at the ceiling a lot.

Re: How do you fill your time?
This may sound odd, but have you ever tried sitting down with a stack of paint, glue, and a plastic aircraft/car/tank/ship model kit? I find turning a stack of plastic into a perfect looking vehicle of some sort quietly fulfilling, if I'm not in the mood to do something with people (which is rare anyway :P ) and I need a little pickmeup.

I'm not sure how it works over there, but perhaps if you had the time you could enrol at the local Community College to do some short course or whatever to kill some time? I envisage that it'd also be a good opportunity to 'meet new people'.

In the first fight in the video, that's me in the red and black.  You'll see me kill my oponent at the end of a very long fight, then he kills me...our third fight, which he won, isn't on the video.

Re: How do you fill your time?
That's actually something that bears mentioning, come to think of it. Easily one of the largest time-sinks in my life, and generally something I do if I have time to fill, or even when I have no time at all. Reading and posting on HLP.

Damn, I've been browsing for years. It really staggers me to think how long I've had HLP forums in my favourites, or had the url damn near the top of the list. All the time I've spent on this little forum, must be weeks if you put it all together. Maybe months. Admittedly, I don't spend much time posting. But if I'm bored for even a second and I'm on a PC, then HLP is my next stop. And I get bored a lot.

Man, I love this place.

Oh that's my other thing... I'm finding online stuff not as fulfilling as it used to be. So I've so of hit my limit there. I'm talking real life stuff :) Apparently all of you are in the same boat as me :)

So does BWO qualify as "online"? :nervous:
