So far that movie's getting unfavorable reviews from what I've read.
But I intend on watching it anyway.

I keep hearing that the ratio of good to bad in this movie is really low.  That somehow, a movie about scantily-clad women fighting over-the-top epic battles in a dreamworld managed to not be as entertaining as it should have been.  RT's now giving it only a 20%, which dropped from 30-something a couple days ago.

Still considering it though... friend of mine with fair movie sense is seeing it this afternoon, I'll wait to hear what he thought.

I get the feeling that it certainly isn't a good movie, but would be entertaining to watch. A good one to just turn off your brain and catch on netflix or rental one day.

It has Mechs vs Biplanes. If they can't get a decent movie out of that then I'd be very dissapointed :(

Saw it a couple days ago with some friends, and we were all very entertained. Not Oscar material, but certainly a good movie.

Lots of critics hate it, and those critics missed the point- there is a fair bit of depth to the film theme-wise, and the action sequences were truly stunning. Don't feel like going into detail here, but I will go on record as saying that the low ratings are misleading.
"I have approximate knowledge of many things."

Ridiculous, the Director's Cut

And I will go on record saying the low ratings are accurate.  The only good parts of the movie are the dream action sequences, which are fantastic.  The rest of the movie sucks.  I did not enjoy the acting or the characters all that much, and the style of the film outside the dream sequences is not the kind of thing I enjoy, I guess; I really found myself going, "Hey, can we get to another dream sequence please?  Pretty please?" during most of the movie.  My recommendation would be to wait for it to come out on Netflix on Blu-ray, get it from there, and then fast forward to the dream sequences, because they really are goddamned amazing.

LOLZ I'm feeling A LOT of realism flaws are gonna show in this movie...
With the rapid increase of FS fan-made campaigns, we're giving the GTVA a harder time with more violence and genocide.

It seems interesting... for one thing it breaks with tradition by having all main character as female. I'll go watch it.

Look at Flipside's post.
Mechs. And biplanes.
I'll add to it.
Zepplins. And dragons.

There's also Assault Girls.

It has the same "DIS MUUVYE SUX CUZ IT NOT SRS KTHXBYE" reviews that Sucker Punch is getting, but it's another one of those movies you watch to put your brain on sleep mode and see gunfights and explosions. I haven't seen it myself but the Trailer looks like it's worth a watch.

Also it's a Japanese producer (Ghost In The Shell) so there's things like even more crazy aircraft, mecha, dragon things, Sparkle Magic, etc.

No wonder I didn't like Ghost In The Shell. I was watching it the wrong way.  :p

Yeah, Sucker Punch was entertaining, certainly, but by no means a GOOD movie. Which is totally okay, for me anyway. The Mechs, Biplanes, and Steam Nazis were massively awesome, and thats what I went for.

I'm guessing that would explain why there's a white girl in a sailor suit with a katana fighting a samurai with a minigun.

Edit: Whoops, misunderstood who produced what movie. Still, what the heck?

It's not a bad movie per se. Its just ... what's happening before the first dream sequence that was quite confusing for me.

Spoiler:
I didn't understand how did it go from a mental institute to a brothel. Or where did the mob influence come from. Took me a while to understand that it was Baby Doll's projected imagination to cope with the stress of being in the loony bin.

I at least got the meaning of the title in the movie's context though, and the theme of us being in control of our own lives is, while quite cliched, hammered across none to gently.

Also, I have a major thigh-high fetish, so I loved her outfit. But the action scenes were cool too.

It's sort of like the original Star Wars, later on I started thinking about motivations and messages, but the first time I watched it, it was for the pew pew ;)
