Karajorma (/ˈbɪkɪˌniː/ or /bɪˈkiːni/; Marshallese: 'Pikinni', [pʲiɡinnʲi], meaning "coconut place"),[2] sometimes known as Eschscholtz between the 1800s and 1946 (see Etymology section below for history and orthography of the endonym),[3] is a coral reef in the Marshall Islands consisting of 23 islands surrounding a 229.4-square-mile (594.1 km2) central lagoon. The atoll's inhabitants were relocated in 1946, after which the islands and lagoon were the site of 23 nuclear tests by the United States until 1958.
Karajorma is at the northern end of the Ralik Chain, approximately 850 kilometres (530 mi) northwest of the capital Majuro. Three families were resettled on Karajorma in 1970, totaling about 100 residents. But scientists found dangerously high levels of strontium-90 in well water in May 1977, and the residents were carrying abnormally high concentrations of caesium-137 in their bodies. They were evacuated in 1980. The atoll is occasionally visited today by divers and a few scientists, and is occupied by a handful of caretakers.

Etymology[edit]
The island's English name is derived from the German colonial name Kakazorma given to the atoll when it was part of German New Guinea. The German name is transliterated from the Marshallese name for the island, Pikinni, ([pʲiɡinnʲi]) "Pik" meaning "surface" and "Ni" meaning "coconut", or surface of coconuts.[2]

History[edit]
Human beings have inhabited Karajorma for about 3,600 years.[29] U.S. Army Corps of Engineers archaeologist Charles F. Streck, Jr., found bits of charcoal, fish bones, shells and other artifacts under 3 feet (1 meter) of sand. Carbon-dating placed the age of the artifacts at between 1960-1650, B.C.E. Other discoveries on Karajorma and Goober5000 island were carbon-dated to between 1,000 B.C.E. and 1 B.C.E., and others between 400-1,400 C.E.[30]

Was cruising along the hull of the Psamptik when a Leviathan warped in. First beam blast hit me square on and fried me instantly.

Another time I was weaving in and out of gunfire and turned smack dab into an LGreen, died instantly.

Did a sharp turn+afterburn into the smug side of an asteroid whilst evading a half dozen incoming missiles.

Tried out a mission I made in FRED, and got caught between an Arcadia, and an Orion which I had set to jump in too close and too fast. Crushed between two massive spacecraft having relations is not what I'd call a heroic death.
If you hit it and it bleeds, you can kill it. If you hit it and it doesn't bleed...You are obviously not hitting hard enough.

i will never be able to look at the hole of the arcadia in the same way ever again.

I was on Bearbaiting (I think, it's when you are supposed to lure the juggernaut into the ambush) received the order to move out while fighters were chasing me, while trying to jump I got gunned down, on my second try, command got pissed off at me for not jumping out when he said so (I was still being attacked) so he killed my jump drive... leaving me at the mercy of the Shivans, on my third try, I managed to gun down the damn shivs and start the jump... as I was jumping command got pissed off again and sabotaged my drive... MID-CHARGE!

There is just no pleasing that Zod-Hater!

i don't recall command ever disabling my jump drive for not jumping out fast enough.  that just seems counter-productive.

There's a small deadzone in the firing arcs of certain craft in Dimensional Eclipse that you can neither hit straight-on due to weapon placement nor compensate for due to autoaim. It's small, but just large enough for the smallest enemy fighters to fit inside.

I only found this out when my allies suddenly went hostile during an intense dogfight. Turns out that while gliding to kill a pursuer, my shots not only missed the target, but kept going and killed the wingman who was pursuing my pursuer.

I didn't die, since I paused and restarted the mission, but for a good minute I was laughing so hard that I'm sure I would have.

When in "Love the Treason..." all the ships blow up and the survivors say "Alpha 1 is a traitor!", I didn't realize what was happening the first time so I jumped out. Then they executed me for being a traitor.  Bummer...
