Some cell shading, some lighting and shadows... and I think, it looks nice.

So do I. That shot would look good in a screencap contest methinks. :)

The ship in that screenie reminds me a little of Mass Effect's Normandy... probably more the SR1 rather than the SR2!
I do not feel... I think!

Hit me up with the .fs2 files close to release if you want me to do a style pass.

I have done a crash-test with a HDR build, using VM... and well, judge for yourself!

you need to disable envmaps in the launcher, the right side of that hatshepsut looks ridiculous
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Since when was disabling environment maps the solution to bad shinemap alpha channels? I'm not even convinced there's any problem there, and even there is shouldn't you be telling FSU that?

Also...that text could really use some editing/grammar check.

It's not the shinemap, it's the HDR builds.
I've found that:
- the -no_emissive_light flag looks broken
- the envmap is too strong (you can see environmental reflections even if the shinemap alfa is totally black) Disabling them in the launcher fixes it.
But since Swifty is still working on those builds, I'd say it'll get fixed sooner or later.

Also, those screenshots make me think of FC3: Blood Dragon. :)

Re: VeniceMirror official thread!
Hello. What other alternatives for mirrors do I have? With the release closing in, I don't want to have my dropbox blocked for increased activity!

So... ideas?

Re: VeniceMirror official thread!
You could try Freespace Files.  It also gives direct links that are compatible with the FSOInstaller.

Have a look at mediafire as well. I think its a gigabyte they give you on a free account... so if the mod doesnt exceed that size then you could be good to go.

Mediafire doesn't provide direct download links, preventing its use with the FSO Installer.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

How's about Google Docs?  I'm pretty sure you can squeeze DDLs out of that, though I'm not sure about bandwidth limits.

Re: VeniceMirror official thread!
Fair point Admiral. But it could still be used as an alternative mirror if someone doesn't want to use the installer for it. I probably won't use the installer for it when it is released.

Generally, I only use the installer if I have to completely reinstall FS2.
I do not feel... I think!
