Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
I know that FS2 has had the ability to slide added as shown in things like WCS and The Babylon Project. However, I thought it would be nice to make it possible to do this is ordinary FS1 and FS2 as well and give all fighters the option to do it. I know that the control for it is assignable and toggleable within the options.

I know this would not be everyone's cup of tea, which is why I suggest to have a mod for it. If this has already been done, please will someone point me in the direction of it?

Thanks! :)

AFAIK, even TVWP have something like this.

Re: Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
i am develping a mod with new flight mechanics
i wanted to have it ready one year ago, omg, how time flies *panic*
but it is still coming!

until then, you could play my revamp of the lightning marshal campaings (link is in my signature)
>>Fully functional cockpits for Freespace<<
>>Ships created by me<<
Campaigns revised/voice-acted by me:
Lightning Marshal 1-4, The Regulus Campaign, Operation: Savior, Operation: Crucible, Titan Rebellion, Fall of Epsilon Pegasi 1.1Aftermath 2.1,
Pandora's Box 2.2, Deep Blood

Other Campaigns I have participated in:

Re: Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
Hehe... I've done Diaspora and Lightning Marshall. I just want it as an option for FS1 port and FS2 as I think it could be a really nice thing to have and to potentially use it in any mod pretty much like the cockpit mod.

I do not feel... I think!

Re: Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
If you have not tried them already you may want to look at using Joshua's RealFlight mods which can be found here: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.46. I probably should have uploaded those to another category.

Bear in mind though that they were made around the FSO 3.6.9 era IIRC, so they may not work as well with with newer versions of FSO or the FS1 conversion. I recall Joshua saying there was something a bit broken regarding some ship speed settings or something.

Re: Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
That won't work because it would severely affect mission balance - you can't plug-and-play it, since most missions are designed with certain flight mechanic limitations in mind, and changing it may have rather unforeseen circumstances. It would require at the very least a test run to make sure that no mission breaks, and to tweak and fix the ones that do.

Not something purely on the UI side like a cockpit mod or radar icons which only affect what you the player sees and not how the game itself is operating.

If you look at the RealFlight mod, it says:

Quote
Note that missions (espacially retail FS2 ones) will become imbalanced due to the changes this mod makes.

Basically, you'd have to tweak or build missions from scratch with the flight mechanic in mind, or you might get some rather wonky behavior with the AI and balancing and such.

Re: Request for Newtonian Physics Mod
Good point, I think the AI does not actually have, or use, all the advantages that the player gets from the added glide/slide features in those mods. Weapon speeds are increased to compensate with the changes to the flight model though.

Re: Request for Slide/Glide side mod for FS port and FS2
Tbh... I think I've probably named the thread incorrectly. Really... it should have been "Request for Slide/Glide side mod for FS port and FS2".

So... once again my signature lives up to my words (except this time it was by accident).

What I really want is to just have that ability to slide/glide as a player in every flyable ship. Whether the AI was able to use it or not is something that I am not really bothered about as long as I, as a player, has the ability to do it. Even if there is some easy/ugly toggle or hack that will enable it, I would be happy.
