How about this: Give it six anti-cap beam cannons, somthing like 2 TerSlash and 4 LTerslash, or even just 4 Terslash. This sounds like a lot, but it depends really heavily on the arcs you choose to use. If they are arranged evenly around the ship to give it a good level of all-round defensive protection then it becomes very reasonable for a carrier. 4Terslash is the Deimos loadout, although the corvette is turreted in such a way that any target in its frontal half is always under fire from three beams.
I think a very reasonable loadout would be 4-6 light anti-cap beams, an equal number of AAA beams, and the rest being missiles and flak, with the beam cannons focused around the launch bays and the flak and missiles covering the flanks. Although I like the idea of giving it anti-cap missile launchers... a treb-armed carrier is a really neat idea because it can nullify the anti-fighter turrets of enemy heavies to let bombers do the actual killing job, and it can do it from outside the range of some beams.
If it aint broke, break it!

I have a LVslash you could use it.

Well, the conversion is getting hung up early on, in the saving from Rhino the a format that TS can read without adding 15,000 polys - I ain't kidding! I'll keep y'all updated.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

If you are using polygon meshes then the conversion would be pretty easy. Just join all meshes that will become one subobject, save it as .3dm, and use 3D Exploration to convert it to cob.

What I do is create each polygon individually, and then when the thing is finished I save various parts of the ship as different files. Are you saying that if I create a polygon mesh out of those polys, it would be considered a sub-object when exported via 3D Exploration to COB?

Exactly. Just join them together the way you want your subobjects to be and save it in Rhino format. The structure will stay intact this way.
It also works without 3D Exploration. If you join them together and give every subobject an own unique name and then save it as dxf the structure will be kept too.

Ok, great, thanx! Now another question: Why does the polycount get multiplied by around 30 times when I convert a model made out of 3-sided polys (i.e. no NURBS) into COB using 3dex?
