So I've been diagnosed with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor - essentially the same thing that Steve Jobs had.  Unlike Mr Jobs I have a non-functional one, which means I didn't get as much warning as he got (and squandered).  A non-functional one is not found until it either pinches something, or metastasizes.  Mine pinched the common biliary duct.  I still have some more time in the CT machine coming up to determine if metastasis has occured.  My primary tumor is already around 9cm (head-toe) x 7 cm (left/right) x 6 cm (front/back)... so pretty damn large.  There is a 3.7cm secondary tumor in the local lymph node (first place invaded by cancer typically according to my surgeon).   I have surgery on December 1st - a Whipple Procedure along with removal of the primary tumor, lymph node, and surrounding lymph nodes.

The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Oof.  Very sorry to hear about that.  Best wishes for a safe and effective surgery, and I will pray about it.

"We have now reached the point where every goon with a grievance, every bitter bigot, merely has to place the prefix, 'I know this is not politically correct, but...' in front of the usual string of insults in order to be not just safe from criticism, but actually a card, a lad, even a hero. Conversely, to talk about poverty and inequality, to draw attention to the reality that discrimination and injustice are still facts of life, is to commit the sin of political correctness. Anti-PC has become the latest cover for creeps. It is a godsend for every curmudgeon and crank, from fascists to the merely smug."

And this as well. Hope they can get it out of you quickly.

Good luck. I hope you'll be putting up those signs soon!

I've heard that statistically, people should fear heart disease more than cancer, but it seems like cancer is everywhere I look.

good luck, and it's good that they didn't find it any later than they did. Everyone here, all 15,000 of us, owe you a debt of gratitude for all of the work you've done over the years and you have left an impression on the world that will reverberate for a long time to come.

Take (small) comfort in the fact that you got a cancer with a tumor ... some forms of cancer don't give you that opening to begin with

And should you go into chemo, please prepare your loved ones for it ... even if you don't loose your hair the effects of chemo-therapy are visible and I have to say quite terrifiy to witness; my late father (who had a b-cell lymphoma) looked thinner and more sickly every time I saw him, even if his speech and mannerism didn't show any change. It was one of the hardest things to deal with...

Anyway, I will raise a glass to health and wish you best of luck in beating this...
