All Hallows Eve origonated in another country(I think Norway or another european nation near it) but when more people started coming to America they brought their customs with them.  Nowadays Halloween is more of a kids night out rather than what it really means(Night of the Dead).  Its the same with Valentine's Day, a french monk named Saint Valentine married a couple under Romeo and Juliet circumstances...But what is it now?!?! A greeting card company's dream!!!

We know about Halloween over here, but it's not celebrated or anything, and rightly so. Not only is it potentially dangerous for little kids to be running around doing exactly what they are told not to do every other night (take lollies from strangers), but it's painfully americanized. If any little kid ever comes to my door trick or treating, all they'll get was a blistering lecture on national identity - or something .

Without wanting to turn this to religious debate (heh, good luck)... why would an occult date in a calendar shock? Christmas is in the calendar and that's just another religious date... to suggest Haloween is any different is an exercise in prejudice against other peoples beliefs... by rights every religious festival should be in a calendar - but they aren't. Ho hum...

Because its not a mainstream belief probably and something that society as a whole would generally not deal with.

You're right I suppose - it's a shame people don't think of that though - I mean before now I always been used to calendars only holding Christian dates (mostly) and nothing else, but thinking about it it's a little presumptuous of calendar companies as well...

All Hallow's Eve is actually a Christian holy day, the Eve of All Soul's Day. It was adapted from a Celtic harvist ceremony by missionaries. Incidentally, the date for Christmas was chosen because most of the othere societies had a holy day there, not because that was the date Jesus was born. (No one knows when he was born).

Halloween isn't exactly a holiday, though - it's not like we get off work or anything.  Just get loads of little kids swanning about the streets asking strangers for sweets.  Which, given recent events, is a bit dodgy.
