Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
This thread makes me wonder, is it possible to have multiple sound files selected for a single sound table entry? It would be awesome to have different sounding booms each time a boom happens.  :)

According to wiki ( https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/Sounds.tbl ):

Quote
"Sound set syntax": If this syntax is in use then the new sound set features can be used. These include the ability to use multiple sound files for one entry and with this feature it is possible to randomize the volume and pitch values when a sound is played. Compared to the SCP syntax there are only a few changes: Instead of +Filename this now uses +Entry and allows using that option as often as needed. The +Volume option accepts a random range for possible values and the +Pitch option is new.

In most entries, the name of the file (Second value) can be replaced with 'empty' if the particular sound index is not in use.

Hmm, I'm going to see If I can make a sound TBM that uses both the new and old sounds, will copy code here if I get it working.

This may take a while.

For those who like the manual method, here are the files you'll need to put in your MediaVPs_40x folder, including custom bitmap files for the launcher (until a ninja comes and steals them on the black market):

1) mod.ini
2) FS2.bmp
3) Fs2_Small.bmp

They are compressed into a ZIP file for your convenience.  :pimp:

It should be noted that attachments (since most people looking for this would probably be lurkers) are invisible to non-members.

Here's the most relevant content, the mod.ini:

Code: [Select]
[launcher]
modname      = MediaVPs 4.0;
##image255x112 = FS2.bmp;
##image182x80  = FS2_small.bmp;
infotext     = Freespace II - SVN MediaVPs;
website      = http://www.hard-light.net/;
forum        = http://www.hard-light.net/forums;
mantis      = http://www.hard-light.net/mantis;

I commented the image parts out.

Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
It's ready, FS1, FS2, and the new MVP sounds for explosions all together!

just unpack it into the MediaVPs_40X folder or wherever appropriate.

NOTE: due to how the sound.tbl works, this can only function as a .TBM do not attempt to merge it into a .tbl

Also, the current MVP sounds play twice as often as the older ones, that's a quirk of the tbm as well.

So, what about integrating other cool explosion sounds from some mods? I remember that at some point Blue Planet used (and still uses, but now a bit different ones) some other explosion sounds than MVPS. I also vaguely recall that The Aftermath Reboot had some different ones, too.

I would be cool to have really varied explosion sounds.

I tried to add the BP ones, but FSO started giving errors about them being multi-channel and not 3D-sound compatible. . .

if you can get around that or have other sounds then sure, just add the files and extend the table as needed.

I've thrown in 4 more sounds from The Aftermath Reboot, for the convenience, the file names start with AF.

Not sure if this works well as hosting but whatever https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/223511363807346691/648820288095518720/Multiboomsounds.zip

Agreed! Those new framebuffer shockwaves are gorgeous!

Thanks for putting this together, I'll give it a try and see if lessens the amount of "poochie" explosions heard in-game. While that particular new explosion sound was alright for smaller ships exploding (like fighters), it sounds ridiculous when cap ships/installations explode. The original deep explosion sounds should only play during such occurrences.

Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
This is a decent sound pack. I like the mildly tweaked sounds of Aftermath (which are just FS2 originals with some extra lower-level layering in of 1 or 2 extra effects). Much better than what I was hearing.

Thanks for posting up a link, MitoPL.  :yes:

Hmm, any way to fix that up? Maybe adding the same file entry into .tbm as it is in .tbl once again causes that and it'll do just fine without it?

@AV8R: Sure, no problem, but there's definitely a lot of credit to give to Herkie for the effects. I've just unpacked the stuff and thrown it into an archive after copy-pasting some table entries. Also, what do you think of the two sounds I've selected for the "atomic" effect? It's the explosion of a destroyer-sized or bigger ship. There was one more sound of the bunch but it wasn't really up to be used for this, it sounded more like a shockwave only than an explosion.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the new warp effects? :nervous: The old ones were probably the closer than any other warpmaps ever made to what :v-old: would have done, while the current ones make me think I'm trapped in a yuri dungeon playing WoD.

Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
The new ones don't look ugly / low texture when big ships jump tho.

Also the old ones were :v: ones, this is the first time their textures have ever been updated.   :warp:   :P

I'm 90% sure that statement is wrong.

They were converted to .DDS, but other then that the 38X ones are the same as the retail ani.

You did make me double check tho.  :lol:

Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
Really ? I thought for sure that they had waaay higher definition & more animation.

Re: MediaVPs 4.0.x Discussion Thread
It's possible that the retail ones were used as base, but the old 38X had a 1024 resolution while retail had only 256.

You mean the "Cap_Boom" and "Kaboom2" sounds? Yes, I like them a lot. I also like that the FS1 explosion sounds were included too. I went ahead the placed them all in my new MediaVPs_40x\data folder. I actually overwrote the new MV_Boom_3.ogg file (the one that has that "poochie" effect) with the old version so that new sound is heard less in game. I love the end result. Thanks again for your post (and to "Herkie", whoever you are).  :cool:
