I'm old enough that I saw the original Top Gun when I was a teenager. I saw this trailer when I went to go see The Rise of Skywalker. Maybe a third of the people in the theater (myself included)  at it; the rest were like " is this?"

The amount of backchat he's giving.  He would've got dropped from height for that in the first film.   Plus he's very try hardy with his gesticulation 😂

I saw a featurette about this film indicating that all of the cockpit and airborne shots, are real shots.  Tom Cruise realy IS sitting in the cockpit of an F-18 as its pulling high-G maneuvers (though he's sitting in the back seat), unlike the first film which was reference shots, suspended models, and blue-screened fake cockpits.    Of course, there was a shot at the end of the trailer that looks like some kind of SR-71-drived fictitious design... which obviously ISN'T a real craft so it can't have been a real shot.

This reminds me of Ace Combat and Tom Clancy's HAWX. Ace Combat has fictional aircraft such as the CFA-44 Nosferatu, whereas HAWX doesn't.

A friend and I discussed the possibility of a Top Gun sequel years ago. We were 100% of the opinion that the plotline of the film should concentrate less on fighter aircraft and more on the gay marriage between Maverick and Iceman. And on how their relationship had hit a downward spiral because Tom Cruise still looks much like he did 20 years ago while Val Kilmer most definitely does not.

I'm most disappointed.
