"When you work with water, you have to know and respect it. When you labour to subdue it, you have to understand that one day it may rise up and turn all your labours into nothing. For what is water, which seeks to make all things level, which has no taste or colour of its own, but a liquid form of Nothing?" - Graham Swift, Waterland

Re: [WIP] <Automated Message>
This looks to be something interesting, another ARG/puzzle to be launched?

I was supposed to make a short presentation about basics of optical fibers and here I am, listening to Eurobeat while reading about quantum cryptography.

SYSTEM MESSAGE 1/2

You’ve just called for the available commands. Which means you’re actually trying to do your job. Joke’s on you: the entire “Human back-up”-deal is a just a sham for the lawyers. IPX has this entire station wired up to automatically satisfy all the statues of Earth Law. You’re just here because the same law says that an automated system needs human supervision, even if it absolutely does not.
But hey, you’ve a tachyon uplink to Earth and no supervision from corporate. So make your own fun while you’re here. – F.

SYSTEM MESSAGE 2/2

Hello,

If you are reading this you have stumbled on the first of Ferdinand’s little “presents”. He had our job before you and me. And he left a surprising number of messages, which will play if certain commands are entered.

Most of them appear to be the product of frustration and/or boredom. Although you have to admire lengths he went to in order to put them into the system, I guess.

While they can be annoying, I will not deny that these messages are the closest thing to actual company you will get on this station in between visits from the supply ship: Having a one-sided arguments with this absent loudmouth helped me cope with the loneliness, and I can hope it will do the same for you.

- Youssef (your predecessor)

To: USER_Backup-Human
FROM: Carla (HQ_Carla)
TIMESTAMP: Three days ago

To the new Human Backup of IPX Listening Station S498-B,

My name is Carla Naidu and Interplanetary Expeditions has assigned me to be your primary person of contact in any emergency situation.

However due to a scheduling conflict with the company, I will be unavailable for the first five days after you arrive at your post.
Simply put, the freelancer who the company hired to substitute for me got in trouble with members of Nightwatch. Interplanetary Expeditions has a very strict policy regarding such incidents and had to let the person go. The end result is that I am out of the office and the company has no one to fill in for me.

The Station is fully automated and according to the maintenance logs from your predecessor in very good condition. So there should be no problem until I get back.
In case there might be a problem with the system call the “SYSTEM INFO –AUTODIAG” command. It should provide you with suggestions on how to handle the situation until I am available at HQ.

When I am back in the office, I will be available using the “LRC –HQ_Carla” command. Do not worry about the explaining the situation, I can use the Tachyon Uplink right here on Earth to access the Station’s system and perform a remote diagnostic. However do mind the time difference between the Station and Tel Aviv is nine hours.

Your co-worker,
Carla

Ps. Please don’t cause a CODE MONIKA.
