Despite some glitches in the cockpit mesh and the Aurora being mostly an invalid during a firefight, that has got to be one of the COOLEST FS vids I've ever seen!

 

It is quite brilliant ... if viewed as a tech demo and not a gameplay walkthrough.

I used to be able to move my 'head' by holding keypad0 down. This was a standard retail feature. I'm most unhappy that it no longer appears to be present.
 
Retail should be enhanced not replaced. . . . :-)

You can. But the behavior is pretty weird and you don't have any freedom like Track IR/Free Track.

Free Look with hat causes the view to turn to the extreme end of each direction very fast, right?

Yes.
That's why I map my hat controls to weapon selection.
Up/Down cycles trough my gun banks, left cycles trough my missile banks and right sets double fire on/off.

I'm using my hat controls for controlling sliding whenever it's available.
In XWA I used it for energy management.

I use the hat to use thrusters in TBP as well, though I had to use the joystick software to allow two simulatneous thruster movements to go off at once.

Been playing around with a (probably overdone) lens flare, and I though I'd post a WIP shot. I've run into both the 6 textures and 10 flares limits, which is probably a clue that I need to make the effect a bit more subtle .

I'm also just learning Gimp, so this is good practice for extremely simple effects. Most of this is a result of randomly fooling with the gradient tool, and working with a result I like.



For reference, this is the same mission with a Fenris covering up the star and hiding the flare:



Loving the bumped asteroids limit btw. 512 is still not that much to work with, considering some of the effects I'd like to create (such as a dense field of extremely small asteroids that just bounce off of ships), but it's a start.

At first, I thought the Fenris was shooting a new version of the Shivan Super Laser, but then I took another look.

It does look like the Fenris just bored through a large rock formation with some big gun, though.

Finally got around to playing the new BP... Apart from some sound issues in the final missions, it was just as awesome as I expected
