Play Vassago's Dirge and you'll see. The answer would be a fairly major spoiler. And it's an ingenious bit of FREDding I'm not surprised you didn't figure out in a single glance (hint: the Ravana model was not altered at all.)

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to play FS these days (I've gone into it in different posts before, so no need to get into it here again).  In regards to the model, if its' done via FREDding, I'd guess a small model placed in the Ravana's "mouth", texture-replaced with invisible, and mounting a BFRed.

That's brute-forcing it a bit... would create-weapon spawn a beam? Of course, it wouldn't work if the Ravana was in motion (since the beam origin would stay in the same place)... hmm. I wonder if there's even a way to do it entirely FRED-side with no extra tables.

The SD Vassago is stationary for the entire duration of the beam attack, so...I'd guess either one would work.

And thankee kindly. Or thank Watsisname (sp) and i think Shiv set this BG up for me. I personaly hate making backgrounds in FRED... Wish there was a 3D-sphere tool that you could see where each piece was showing up so i dont have to go around changing planes to look at them. x.x
