Love everything but the FPS

 :wtf:
There are some of us, who don't run FSO on 24th century hardware.  :P
Hell even then it bogs up at times. :P
Granted it's about a step below Sara's and Zacam's system but that's apparently a significant difference. :nervous:

Meh, Freespace has a bottleneck in it and hardly uses dual/quad cores and GPU's to their full advantage. Doesn't matter what hardware you are running, BP massive battle will always be choppy for example.
I've got this new fancy rig: a i7-2600k, 8GB, GTX570 and im only getting 20fps when looking away from the battle  :p
Urutorahappī!!

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Oh I know BP Massive Battle will always slaughter frames, but that might be a little impractical to make comparisons of since campaigns won't have missions of that scale.
Unless a miracle solution comes up that allows the hardware to operate at its fullest, but that definately isn't happening any time soon or more likely ever. :P

That's because FSO only uses a single core, there's no multicore support what-so-ever.
[22:29] <sigtau> Hello, #hard-light?  I'm trying to tell a girl she looks really good for someone who doesn't exercise.  How do I word that non-offensively?

Slaughter of frames. I know a way.

Some pics made during my weird particle effect testing.

Jumped directly into the debris.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Ok, so now if only the particles get to be less equal to each other, with their velocity, size and lifespan being different, it may start to be awesome. As is now, it's really ****ing interesting, but somewhat ugly.

Great work, however. Please keep up!

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I can never go beyond 59.8 FPS regardless of what's on screen. The usual frame rate I get is between 10 to 30 FPS, which is also the frame rate I'm used to playing FreeSpace on.

Try after turning off v-sync.
