Now that I am King in the Ireland I think my personal demesne is large enough to squash most of my vassals, though I have not had a succession since creating the kingdom.

CK II gives me an appreciation for why all the screwed up stuff in European history, like Spain ruling the Netherlands, happened.

Just watched the Dreadnaught trailer.

I feel comfortable in saying that while it's a bit of a reaction against the traditional space sim going on there...the age of the space sim has dawned again.

VVVVVV got a nice little update on Steam, so I'm having a bit of fun with that.  Also helped troubleshoot a saving issue while on XP, which made me feel almost-useful!

I've begun playing NetHack.

I suck at it. Only made it as far down as level 11 or so.

But I am learning.  I finally figured out what the hell altars do (or at least, part of what they do) and that has made the going easier. A bit.

the worst, clunkiest keyboard/mouse input >> control pad.  that said, i'm getting REALLY tired of modern PC games not supporting extra mouse buttons.  how much effort could it POSSIBLY take to get that right?  3rd party programs are irritating, time consuming to set up and switch around, and kludgey.  and for the love of god, give me independent aiming sensitivity.  ESPECIALLY if it's the goddamn sole means of combat!  i can either jack up the sensitivity so high that the slightest twitch of the wrist points me in god knows what direction when walking about, or be able to aim and shoot at a reasonable speed in combat.  not both.

Floating Eyes are bull****. Thought the level was empty, hit with  a sword, it didn't die, and then I was frozen, and a bunch of Uruk-hai show up out of nowhere.

I didn't even know you could encounter Uruk-hai so early.

Lesson learned: never ever enter melee combat with a floating eye you idiot!

Lol yeah that's a mistake people only make once. And the level might have been empty - most dungeon level start empty except for special rooms, and the monsters you fight are generated as you play.

Re: Altars: Yeah, they can be tricky at times. DON'T sacrifice unicorns at cross-aligned altars. Also don't sacrifice your own race unless you're chaotic. Or former pets.

(And Uruk-hai are the source of many untimely deaths. They're often generated with poisoned arrows, which can weaken you and have a small chance to kill you outright if you don't have poison resistance.)

NetHack is the best game. Unless I just lost a promising character to a typo in Vlad's Tower after gettin gfully kitted out, in which case I'll say that NetHack is the worst game :7

Why would you do that? 

...actually, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Nethack is one of those games where you can do pretty much anything, and where everything is useful for something.

Just today I found out that blindfolds are actually very useful, but only if you are telepathic (now there's something Floating Eyes are good for!)
