Sintel (Blender Open Movie Project, Movie 3)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ          (Go to Blender home page and follow links for HQ downloads)

I haven't watched this yet, I'm still deciding if I should download the high quality version, but the trailer was pretty good. The quality of this is as good as any "Hollywood" animated film, but only goes for 15 (excellent) minutes. Apparently it cost $400,000 in donations, etc

In the near future, you will be able to get DVDs with tutorials that will enable you to re-create the entire movie... :shaking:

That was amazing.  Terribly happy and sad at the same time.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

And even then some things look off in some places, but if this is what FOSS is capable of doing (even though money's needed to cover the expenses, I guess that's inescapable, and no I'm not trying to downplay 400 grand here), then...

Respect!

As for the ending, well that... sucks... but who can blame reflex when
Spoiler:
the flame thrower is point-blank at your back... :sigh:

Re: Sintel (Blender Open Movie Project, Movie 3)
That's some awesome stuff, and especially considering how few people worked on the movie itself (as compared to a full-length picture).
The open-source thing is just extra.

imagine what could have been if they had put that money towards making the UI usable.

You don't like the new 2.5x beta interface? It is better than the old one, but I don't like how some things have "disappeared" without a list of where they went...

I just finished watching the movie - the only thing I really noticed was the fact that their mouth movements weren't the most realistic...otherwise, things can be excusable in an animated film, especially for open source with so few people... ;)

The credits song was really nice...

Beautiful scenes but the story feels rugged and quite poorly conceived - spoken on a higher level.

... that's so arrogant...

I like it

I've seen the banner a couple of times in blender's site but never got to check it out, this is nice indeed... and also it makes me feel like an incompetent m fool for not being able to do such a thing with the same tools  :p

You sort of think "look at those mistakes", etc, but then you realise what your Blender skills are like in comparison... I wonder how long it would take to complete the tutorial DVD?
