I have countless that wouldn't pale in comparison.
You have the oldies like Saint Seiya, Cobra space adventure, The Mysterious cities of gold, Patlabor, You're under arrest, Lodoss, Slayers etc
You have less old stuff like Nadesico, Cowboy bebop, Trigun, Noir, etc
You have the recent stuff like Last EXILE ( my favourite
), Scrapped Princess, Vandread, etc
You also have stuff like Azumanga Daioh! ( but that's odd and you have to understand the japanese culture or you won't understand most of the jokes ), Ebichu ( same as Azumanga, but very, very trash
), Jungle Wa Itsumo Halle Nochi Guu - Jungle for short
- ( which is hilarious ), you have the classics like Love Ina ( for the romantic ones, as Flaser said, but it's also quite wacky
). You have unknown stuff like Mahou Senshi Riui, that would deserve more fame.
For space scifi only, well, my seelction would be Crest/Banner of the stars, Cowboy Bebop, Macross, Nadesico, Vandread, Outlaw Star ( oldie ), The Heroes of the Galaxy ( classical music, and it's much more about strategies, a very deep and thick thing ), I'm not much a fan, but Kiddy Grade would qualify too. Meh, most stuff by Leiji Matsumoto ( Harlock, Yamato, SSX999, etc ). I'm probably forgetting a lot, but heh.
