I have an XBox, no problems here, yet.

I also have PS2. Crapped out after a year. Lousy DVD laser burns out, and it costs as much as a new unit to replace.

I almost agree. I did buy a Playstation 2 when they came out, but mainly for the fact that it could play DVDs. Now... It just sits there. Collecting dust. Every now and then I'll play a game I borrowed from a friend, but other than that. Its just an ornament. As for the X-Box, a big ornament. I usually think of it this way, there is no game on any console that is better than a PC game. Apart from perhaps Squaresoft games.
I have returned... Again...

£79 for a GameCube. Hell, I payed £90 for one, and the only games I have are F-Zero and Zelda.

The Billbox and PS2 are not gaming platforms, they're fashion accessories. If you're actuallt interested in playing games, Nintendo is your friend

It really comes down to the games.

If you like platformers, big name sports titles and console-style RPGs then a cosole is worth it, for a large portion of the population, this is pretty acurate.

If you favor Flight Sims, RTS, TBS, or Shooters, then PCs are the way to go.

The best way to find out if it's worth it for you is find a place that will rent you one for a week or something and try various games for the console.  You'll know after a week whether you want to lay down 150 bones for one of your own.

Don't talk out your arse mate. I have an Xbox and a Gamecube and I'm sorry but the Xbox has way more playtime than the GC and this is spoken without bias but I find that the Xbox has better games for the most part because I'm not interested in playing sequels to Nintendo's past glories.

What Nintendo need to do is get more third party developers on board like Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness) and Retro Studios. Plus the lack of online gaming on the Gamecube also pushes it down in my opinion because there's nothing quite like playing a lag and cheat free (for the most part) game with voice communication.

As for the boxes reliability, had mine nearly two years and aside from an occasional disk read error I don't have any problems.

But to japanese people, everything looks bigger :p
I dunno about the gamecube, but what I know is that the Xbox has a lot of excellent games. That's what is important, I believe?

Exactly, I think that point seems to get lost. It's nice to know there are people that still see this.

I mean, a good games a good game, I don't give a **** what platform it's on. I'd rather have every good game experience that I can get rather than limit my choices but ::shrugs:: I dunno, I guess not all people are the same.

Speaking from experience I can tell you now, it's not very good as a coffee table. You can balance plates on it but cups are far too unstable. The irony of course is that (aside from being a top loading device) the GC is far more suitable for cups.

I've got both the Xbox and PS2,....so far I enjoy both a great deal. We're actually looking into getting a Gamecube soon,...only because too many games are single platform only.  And while PCs are by far the best,... that's only when the game also comes out on PC,....and then providing you have the system to handle it, don't have to fight through 300+ patches to get bugs out, etc. ;)

Don't get me wrong,..I prefer PCs if only for the MODing factor, given enough time any good game gets ripped open and modded, but at the same time there's alot of cool games that my system just can't run at peek, or at all, so $150 for a console to play those same games is easier at the moment than paying $500 + to upgrade my PC system.

To reduce the risk of the hard drive in an X-Box breaking down or exploding, you can put your own hard drive in it. You can get say, an 80gig hard drive and a mod chip to store all your games on. I saw it on TechTV.

Since you didn't ask about console games vs. PCs, I'll just put in a little STFU to the ****wits telling you Consoles aren't worth it. If you want a console, obviously, you think its worth it.

I've got an Gamecube and a PS2. While I love it, my PS2 barely gets any play anymore. My Gamecube gets all the new games (because its got games my wife likes too). If I was sitting here picking consoles NOW and I didn't already have one, I'd get a GameCube. But to cover the entire spectrum, I think I'd buy an Xbox too and leave the PS2 on the shelf. So yeah, an Xbox is worth it.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

I have a Gamecube + PS2. I love the PS2 (the gamecube slightly less so), it has a bunch of games of the kind I like (RPGs, SRPGs, adventure). Xbox is highly lacking in these genres. In the end it's a matter of personal preference.

Unfortunately the PS2 has some dvd laser problems as it gets older (got mine back in 2000). I've noticed that after 4 years it's having read problems. There is a solution to this. You can stand it up (on its "side"), this is a temporary fix. (Also try DVD lens cleaner disks) Eventually that solution won't work, and at that point you have to take the PS2 apart and do some fixing.

I don't trust techTV :wtf:

Nother question are the graphics okay the only reason I'm thinking about buying one is only because my computer can't support the newer games that are out. I'll probably use the Xbox as a secondary system. I still like RTS games and Freespace 1 & 2 :D

note: not worth trying to upgrade system already upgraded to the max, no way I'll bother with buying a new motherboard.
