I harbour an eternal hatred of Nokia phones. Devilish things.
Myself, I have a Sony-Ericsson T610. Proper job. It's small, the structure of it is brushed aluminium, it has a camera, it has bluetooth, it has IR (I used to think this was standard, until my friend got a very recent phone that didn't have it. Weird), it has GSM and GPRS, and it's triband. It has a lovely large colour screen which actually looks half decent, and the battery lasts for an age. Only problem is it takes a short while to start up fully, but it really doesn't make that much difference.
For phoning it does a great job, despite the microphone being nowhere near your mouth (disadvantage of the small size, I suppose). For texting it's also great, the keys have good tactile feedback and it supports T9 predictive. It does have a few games, and fully supports Java (not a Nokia bodge job with the compatibility), but it definitely screams 'executive' more than 'teenager'.
