The problem is that most hard drug users start on Weed. In fact, Weed is still taken even when you are on hard drugs. When you do a line of Coke or an Ecstasy tablet, it doesn't mean you stop smoking, far from it. I don't hold that weed 'naturally' leads to hard drugs, but I do hold that someone who smokes weed has the capability to go onto stronger stuff for a bigger buzz. It's down to choice and strength.
I say this because I used to do Weed, Coke, Ecstasy, Speed and a few other things, though I refused to touch Heroin or do anything that involved needles. I wouldn't say I was a heavy user, I was a weekender, but nonetheless, you'd be amazed, when you do a line of coke, how much you want another one 30 minutes later. When you are coming down from an E, the only route away from feeling depressed that you can see is to get high on another tab.
I was lucky, I found myself fancying a line of coke at work, and pulled myself together enough to realise the creeping effect that stuff has on you. You never realise that you are thinking about it so much until you examine your own thoughts while coherent.
My family were good to me during that time, and I was less grateful at the time than I should have been, however, I did not steal or lie or manipulate my family or anyone else to feed that habit, I had more self respect than that. If I had no money, I would rather go without, even though I'd be in a foul mood, than steal. Which means there IS a choice, or at least there is for a while, I cannot accept that people don't realise they are getting hooked on substances, and that only they can protect themselves.
So I'm afraid I have no sympathy whatsoever for An0n's sister, she has passed her point of choice, and she has chosen.
Edit : < Neo > Woah < Neo >
2nd Edit : I thought I should point out, it wasn't that I wasn't tempted to steal.
