Hmmmmmmmmm....An0n may well have a bloody good reason for hating his sister, I don't know his life, so I'm not even going to try and judge. But I've seen enough people in my line of work who have incredibly good reasons to hate their family.

Besides, this is the UK, it's not as if she's going to get anything more than a suspended sentence or possibly community service.

I wasn't aware he posted anything regarding his family life. Or if indeed he did, I would be inclined to disbelieve it.

I've never had the whole "hate you parents, hate your siblings" stuff that seems to be so popular in North American (and European) teenagers. I don't know if its cool or something to hate your family, who knows. Maybe my experience is not typical, but I love my family and would do pretty much anything for them.

You can hate what they do, you can hate what they are, but I can't think of anything that would make me actually hate my family.  

If they got addicted to drugs or alcohol I would try and help them stop, if they were running around on their spouses I would try and help them stop.  If they have a problem of some kind, I would try and help, that's why it's a Family, this goes fo my extended family too, though I would be more delicate.  A family is more than just a bunch of people who happen to be related to each other living together, it's a bond that exists beyond the norm.

I work with kids who have fathers who put cigarettes out in the faces 'for a laugh'. I work with kids who's mother bring home a different partner every night, often kicking the kids onto the streets in the process. I work with kids who have been sexually, physically, emotionally and intellectually abused by the very people they are supposed to be able to turn to. I don't think this is very cool either.

I agree that the family unit should be the strongest, but to be honest, the world just isn't like that.

I agree, there are of terrible people who are also parants, and that just leaves the kids in a very bad spot. Though there may be exceptions, I believe that when I grown man/woman decides to beat on their kids and worse, they deserve to be paid a visit by a large group of burly men with baseball bats. The 6 months in hospital ought to be enough for them to rethink their position.

LOL What I'm implying is that there a lot of ways in the world to make someone hate you. It's actually very rare for someone to 'just' hate someone else without reason.

Ric : I work in a Training Provider, we train kids that have not made it into college or are unable to continue at school, in trades like Administration, Hairdressing etc. It gives them a second roll of the dice, as it were. Often the job isn't unlike Social Work.

Flipside, your veiw is slightly skewed because of your employment, in point of fact most(probably greater than 95%) of Families aren't like that.  

IMO, in the situations you outlined, the children should be removed and given to a more stable couple, not a single parent, a monogamous, heterosexual couple.  Children, boys in particular, need Fathers.  

I loathe what the "Women's Liberation" is trying to do to the traditional, Nuclear Family.  They are telling women that they don't need men to live a happy and fulfilled life, but every married woman I've ever talked to says they are happier now than they ever were before they wed.  This is why you date for more than a year before considering marriage, so you know what you are getting before you sign such a permanent agreement.
