Actually non-HTL ships are more likely to kill the framerate, since it's not pollycount that really punishes the engine but the number of textures/ship and non-HTL ships weren't made with that in mind.

Those HTL ships use tile maps as well, so they are worse than non HTL ships as they also have larger polycounts.
I reverted to tile maps as the large high res maps were causing issues for lower spec systems, and they looked crap. I kept them for the lods though.

I reduced the number of maps on some ships to try and help. Don't know if we still need a bumped texture limit anymore.

Here's hoping that Bob's WIP shaders can solve this and improve performance.

OGL shine effects seem to make sub-objects really shiny on my system. I have to make a near black shinemap to stop that, but then you don't get any shine at all.

Looks like there might be about 2k+ posts missing from the INF forums.

I've asked for this thread to be restored. Might take some time though.

So I suppose I should take more shots then :p

I prefer the blue shockwaves myself. I just think they look cooler and stand out from the explosion, but I'm not going to be picky. :)

Since we are dealing with Freespace, which is a futuristic, sci-fi world with things like anti-matter and subspace, I'd say something like the blue shockwave is possible in that universe, but hey, the new hi-res explosions look great. I just prefer blue.
