Cars using Veggy Oil for FUEL???
I think they've had this technology around for a while now, I've never really understood why no one has taken advantage of it yet.

LOL I think, somehow the **** begins with F rather than B ;)

I wonder why this isn't made public knowledge, say, at driving school?

I remember reading somewhere that the fossil fuel multinationals have pressurised governments to hinder the takeup of alternative energy technologies.

Unfortunately I can't remember where I read it. :doubt:

Brazil uses a large percentage of it's sugar crop to create alcohol which is used to fuel cars IIRC.

Diesel engines need very little if any work done to run vegetable oil, however the costs work out to more than buying diesel from a petrol station so it's hardly worth it. LPG conversions are far less expensive to run.

This is old news. Doesn't get through due to two reasons:

1.) Laughing gas is expelled in the exhaust fumes, making it worse for the environment than common fuel.

2.) Fossil fuel multinationals have pressurised governments to hinder the takeup of alternative energy technologies.

Makes rubber-tube-exhaust suicides more interesting then.

i was thinking number 2 also, but then i remembered big oil and the media don't get along very well, so it's probably more number 1. you see, Veggie Oil works in most engines already, so all you need is the media to repost on the 1337ness of veggie oil and people everywhere will use it.

I doubt that nitrous oxide is released when it's made properly. Anyway, anyone can make this, assuming they have a bit of vegetable oil, some strong chemicals, and a bit of patience. One of my friends is even making it for a science project.

But they dont have as much money as current fuel multinationals. They dont stand the slightest chance. As long as there's raw oil left (and as long as its cheap enough) we will be forced to use it.

That's the way the economy works. Heck, in today's world we could get rid of all dentists, as there are other solutions without the need of any special treatment. It would be more comfortable, cheaper, and healthier for all. But people don't want to lose their work, do they?

they've been using it for a while. It's the problem that vegetable oil is more expensive than gasoline (even at these abominable rates.... a buck a litre, kiss my ass!)

Laughing gas =  fun. Who wouldn't want that as a byproduct of their car?

In France, we've had buses runing on beetroot and colza ( couldn't find the english word ) oil for years. But it's only public transports as far as I know. I should add that it might be ecological, but if you're next to it, it smells awful :p

Problem with fuels derived from plants is that plants take a while to grow, if everyone switched over at the same time the crops wouldnt last long
