High School relationships arent always a waste of time if both of you have the DRIVE to make it work. If you can both respect each other and not get moody over the stupid things (Like you are supposed to act THIS way around ME, and if you DONT I'll like, TOTALY dump you) then you can make it happen. Amber made it happen, a good friend of mine who dated the same guy through her Sophmore year until she graduated High School (I think she's still dating him...)
However, most of the students date the others because of their looks, charm, flair, popularity, or because they feel like they NEED someone to date NOW otherwise they arent complete. This, as thorn said, IS 90% of the case and as such destroys the relationship from the inside out. Afterwards you just kind of hate each other and then you get used to each other via friends.
Luckily some (I should italicize
some... oh, done) have the capability to make it work via
maturity and devotion AND responsibility[/B]. Trust me, stupid stuff happens in high school. (However, I've seen stupider things happen with married couples who are just young and stupid as well)
Sorry to hear about you and the German chick though. We have a handful of exchange students as well, and I am "good friends" with the German girl, the Czech girl, the Vietmanese girl, and the Serbian girl. Moreover the Czech women as opposed to the others.
Meditate on your loss and it will vanish, eventually.
