I dunno, any sensible military would make it kind of low tech. Generally, all you need is a high current runnning through it.

I find it inexpressibly..... stupid of any security force to carry out that kind of "excersice".

The fact that it was the French security isn't an excuse, either.

Now, that may sound like a French-bashing comment (and, in a way, yes, it is), but I'm also referring to all the synagogue bombings and other acts that have gotten near rampant in France the past few years - if that hasn't shown the French Security Forces how to deal with things, then it's only thier own fault.

Yes, they ****ed up by losing the packet. Would you prefer they never train so that they can miss when actual terrorists try to slip their explosives, generally in more quantity thant what was used ? And as for the near rampant synagogue bombings -sigh-, I've guess Sharon propaganda machine wprks really well. Yes, there is problems with jews in France. Such as the problems there are with Musulmans, Gypsies, and every other minorities. Not as bad as Germany, when there's a neo-nazi party in the works.
Frankly, i'm getting fed up by the Jew authorities. By crying 'wolf', or in their case, anti-semitism, every time someone doesn't agree with their positions, I think they waste the sympathy capital given to them during WW2. And they're going to be very sorry if that ever happen, given how the entire musulman eastern countries would like nothing more than to send them packing again.
I sincerely hope it will never come to that though. Losing the cultural  wealth of the Jew country and religion would be a disaster in my opinion.

They should've stuck it in a bag of their own rather than pick a random carrier - that way they could tag the bag somehow and use that to find it in case it got lost. (Say, a GPS transponder or somesuch.)

I don't think the idea was completely without merit, but they could've done it better.

Didn't the IRA force people to drive bombs through checkpoints (i.e. people with legit access) by taking their families hostage, though?

(can't find any internet link on it; albeit I did see something indicating the security camera had failed / been turned off)

The IRA are one of the nicest and most effective terrorist forces in history.

They almost always gave warnings, only butchered who they absolutely had to and did so with a maximum of disruption to British life. And because of it, they're getting their own way in the end.

Nicest no google Jean McConville, most effective maybe, they were certainly getting good later on, but like all armed organisations they tended to attract a large amount of scum with no regard for other peoples lives, enemys or not.

Right, wrong, half right, later bombings like the canary wharf and heathrow mortars were designed this way, earlier stuff wasnt. As for getting their own way, they havent yet, nor are they likely to in the future. To be honest not many people in the south actually want a 32 county republic, nice in theory and all that but would you want that lot up there as part of your country?
