Re: HMS Daring launched today
Defiant, Dismantler, Deadly or even Despotic to keep the Blairs happy, but Duncan!?

It's like cars, they used to have cool names like 'Tiger' or 'Mustang' or 'Manta' but now it's all stupid names like 'Ka' and 'Uno', I say un-castrate our car's names!

Be happy you still get car names. In America, the trend is to have random number and letter combinations.

RSX, TSX, RL, TL, MDX, IS300, IS350, FX430, 325ci, 730i, etc.

Annoyyyiiiinnngggg

aren't those all foreign cars ?

While they are, they (most of them) only have those names in North America.

You know the TSX as the Accord. The RSX as the Integra, the IS300 as the Altezza. The G35 as the Skyline. Etc.

American companies... well, they still use names, but, c'mon. Ford 500. Chrysler 300M. It's begining within them, too.

Not that the Ford Ka is a British car, either. Ford is an American company after all.

Re: HMS Daring launched today
Well, what does their being foreign have to do with anything? I never said "American cars are all named like this..."
They're still vehicles sold in the US and have names specifically designed for the American who's "conscious of the image the name exudes"

Re: HMS Daring launched today
Maybe it's the Duncan as in you know... ermm... Duncan Idaho? The Duncan that keeps on tickin'?

Still, we should have ship names for navies like the Culture ships.

Still even the cheesier Brit names sure as hell beat the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Joseph McCarthy, and USS 'Scooter' Libby. :p

I have no problems with the list of names....RN shipnames always had a proud sort of feel to them.  Gives them a sort of strength of history.  Neat looking destroyer...I see finally someone has topped the Canadian frigate and destroyer designs by quite a lot!

Great, an expensive cruise missile target. Nice to know my taxes are being well spent.

Re: HMS Daring launched today
Modern warships are extremely efficient AA (guns and SAMs) and also cruise missile platforms themselves.. So i wouldnt say that its just an expensive target. I rather believe that ships like these are gradually making aircraft carriers obsolete as there is no point what so ever to send any bombers to that ships vicinity (under 100 km radius) unless you have plenty of bombers to spare.
