Re: PS3 delayed until November.
I'm not gonna buy it in any case (or any other "next-gen" console for that matter), and I propably couldn't afford it anyways. It's not like I need to play Ridge Racer 5215 or something.

Re: PS3 delayed until November.
Delayed?  I didn't know they even had a release date.......... can't say it doesn't amuse me to see them ****ed over by DRM standards, though.  Wonder how this will impact on the Revolutions' release date, and the 360 as well (which, from a pure consumer perspective, doesn't seem to be doing stunning; most of the shops I was in today had little distinct packaging/ads up for it, and it was lost in the general mish-mash of PS2 and Xbox1 sales; if MS could pull their finger out and actually get proper shop exposure, they could now clean up - as it is they seem to be lacking in any sort of retail presence where I've been in).

Anyways, Sony have made a lot of trouble for themselves with this, because they should have planned to capitalise on their market leadership, not get caught behind (fair enough, MS seems to have had the 360 planned pretty much from the onset of releasing the original Xbox, but Sony should have had the intelligence to counter that strategy).

EDIT; actually, do we have any definitive sources for this?  It does tally with what we know - especially the DRM problems - but I'm just wondering if stuff like dates is precise.  I'm lookin forward to the PS3, simply because competition should drive down prices.

In other news, the release date for Microsoft's HALO3 has inexplicably been pushed back to Halloween.

I wonder if any of it works yet?  Like that ridiculous 7 core processor.  Think of the heat issues!  Unless it's like the size of a TV.

Re: PS3 delayed until November.
False release dates are a Sony tradition. Only the hardcore fanboys really expected it to come out in the Spring. Most analysts don't believe they'll hit November, let alone this year.

As for the Revoltution, it wont affect any Nintendo plans at all, they know exactly what they're doing three years in advance, they also knew perfectly well that Sony wouldn't hit thier desired target. They've always said "The Revolution will be released before the PS3" which I've personally always believed as it's the most truth anyone has gome out with in this console war.

Come on, developers havn't even got final PS3 development kits yet. No one knows for sure what's in it. Yet Ninty recently gave out prototype development *hardware* which is quite a bit more than Sony have handed out let me tell you.

Funnily enough, from what I've seen that's about all that's finalized.

The Cell won't have quite the same issues that you're thinking of. It doesn't have 7 general purpose processing units. Instead, it has one general purpose and six stripped down processing units (plus one extra for better yields, as only six will be enabled). This means the heat won't be anything like what you're predicting.

The real problem will be writing software to properly use all seven cores, especially without out of order processing.

Re: PS3 delayed until November.
From people who develop for it, I've been told that the PS2 is an absolute nightmare to write for. And very easy to blow up too. We're talking irreversible hardware crashes, just from writing a bit of code that isn't perfect.

And you know, a lepoard never changes it's spots. As long as Sony get to quote these polygon counts and show those  pre-rendered screenshots, developers can rot. They'll always make games for it.

Actually heat in the first dev kits was a very big problem. Hopefully it'll get coolled down, but there's no way they are going to fit that thing in this empty case they've been displaying.

Hopefully the delay will give them a chance to change that fricken ugly controller.

LOL Be careful throwing that thing across the room if you're losing, it'll probably come back and hit you on the back of the head ;)

Re: PS3 delayed until November.
Yeah, the fact that they made the Dual Shock controller look like it would be even harder to use astounds me.

Re: PS3 delayed until November.
my question is: why do they keep wasting their time on new copy protection methods?

Someone will just crack it in as soon as it hits the shelves. I dont care how advanced they think it is.  Look what happened to the PSP; that supposably 'uncrackable' and 'next generation' protection was hacked in no more than 3 days after release. Seriously though, has there ever been a game that is uncrackable?

I may be wrong, but the Xbox 360 has yet to be cracked to my knowledge.

Keyword: Yet

It's not about whether the first generation of consoles are hit with a crack, it's about whether it is cracked successfully or not, and it has an impact on sales.  The answer to that one is always yes.  Every copy protection method to date has in one way or another been broken, it is only a matter of time...  Usually very short.  It's likely X360 has been broken, but the product is likely to be buggy, so it wouldnt be released yet.

Bear in mind that the copy protection on the xbox1 disks was never cracked (IIRC), once they realised they could get the xbox itself to do a disk dump they didn't need to mess with the disks.

I can see concerted efforts being made to crack the 360's hardware before they have a bash at the software.

i wish ppl didnt steal games...imagine how much more funding all these poor devs would get...i  know what its like to pour your blood and sweat into something only to reap little rewards while millions of people just ripped you good.
After much debate I decided quotes are a waste of time.

That's exactly what I think every time I download/copy/"borrow" a game made by EA, and it makes me smile every time.
