I need help
about 5 seconds into the game it crashes 
i have winxp and i thinks thats the problem

Most people here have Windows XP, but I don't think I've heard of this problem before. Try compatibility mode if you haven't already. Do you have any furthur information?

I can assure you that FS1 runs fine on XP, at least mine does.  Although, you may want to check and be sure you have applied the latest patch. (1.x to 1.06, then 1.06 to 1.06EAX, see http://volition-inc.com/fs/downloads.cfm )  You must use compatibility mode (right-click on the icon, hit properties, select "Compatibility", check "Run this program in compatibily mode for:" and select "Windows 98 / Windows Me".  Otherwise you probably will run into the afterburner bug, which makes your afterburner behave as if it's out of fuel when it is actually full.  Also, if you have the Silent Threat add-on, you usually have to re-install the patches again after installing ST.

I've had that problem, too, but it worked fine when I switched to Open GL from the SCP Launcher.

Hmm.  Maybe try updating your vid and possibly sound drivers, updating DirectX, re-installing Windows...  Or maybe describing the crash a bit better.  What *exactly* happens?  What messages are shown?  Write them down & tell us.  What we see right now is "My car shuts off when I start it."  What we need is which warning lights come on, sounds the car makes... you get my drift.  If FS1 works on the desktop upstairs, and FS2 works on the computer that FS1 won't work on, hmmm...  I'm not sure.  We wants more info.

i click the shortcut
launch the game
go to the mission area
it debreifs me on training #1
i start it
i dont touch anything
the teachers says "Good Morning Pi"
it crashes

Have you tried reinstalling, sounds a likely suspect, currupted install. (Don't hold me to that though.)

Umm, is your disc(s) scratched?  If so, get a Disk Doctor (Game Dr., Skip Dr., DVD Dr., whichever's cheapest) and repair it.  Then try re-installing it.

If your disc isn't scratched, you might have dust in your CD or DVD drive.  Try buying a can of compressed air (Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Staples, etc) and using that to blow the dust out of it.  (DON'T SPRAY UPSIDE DOWN!)

PS www.walmart.com and search for skip doctor  or 4062502 That one is around $30 including shipping.  I'm sure there are others that work, but I know from personal experience about the Disk Doctor (I have two!).

PPS If you hold your disc up to a light, with the label side facing away from you, and you can see hole(s) scratched through the label, then you're toast.  No can fixee.

See if any of these ideas work.  If not, let us know.

Hmmph.  If you can't find the discs for some reason, mm... maybe your .iso files didn't d*wn*oa* correctly?

I use ISO to play FS1 and FS2, as well as TA, and a half-dozen other games, all of which I've bought (I was fortionet with FS2, finding it at EB, still in it's wrapper ). He may have the game somewhere. And some people's disks simply don't work with the original disks (my EAW and FEAR 1.04+), thus resulting in the need for cracks and ISOs (even when they are legit). Point being that his original disks, for whatever reason, may have stopped working after creating an ISO.

As for the actual technical problem, try using the compatability mode on the exe file (right click -> properties -> compatability.).

Lol, i remember that mission. Really makes you wish gta command could have made the dragon fighter 100% functional because the afterburners suck on that thing  in the mission. Another thing, warping out in that mission is a *****

A little tip for "Playing Judas" is to have all power to engines (decent 90mps) and stay at about the center "corridoor" and watch Arjuna like a hawk. And don't try to land in the Lucifer's docking bay, dispite what command says. It tends to kill the nav system (literally! I've had this happen every time I've done it).

Just stay in the middle of the 4 containers and Arjuna wing won't trouble you.
