Is there even a 3d modeler that lets you create non-planar polygons ? (without triangulating them internally, that is)

I don't think that's what a concave polygon is.  It's still 'planar'.  See here.

Yeah I know, I was replying to Bobs last sentence. I think that when you have a polygon consisting of more than 3 vertices, and those vertices are not all in the same plane, the polygon hast to be triangulated for any renderer to make sense out of it.

My bad.  Although I think for FS, don't they have to be triangulated even if they _are_ in the same plane?  That's what I was confused on, how you can have a polygon that's not in just one plane.

nope a polygon in POF's BSP format has 3-20 vertexes - IIRC PCS2 is triangulating the mesh though (produces more stable meshes AFAIC)

2.0 Final Release


bob's and my hands are now untied and we can start working on 2.1 features

PS: Bob make sure to backport bugfixes to the stable_2_0_fixes branch

Note: 2.1 Alpha builds will be bob and i only, maybe a hand select few
2.1 Beta builds will be CLOSED BETA - Only people accepted as beta testers [one of the criteron will be NOT using beta versions of PCS2 for production models :P]
2.1 RC builds will be limited forum release
2.1 final will be wide sf.net release like 2.0 final is

I can't believe how much you guys rock!  ;7

Question: With PCS2.1 handling a direct export from Max, does this mean that we won't be restricted to v8, anymore?  Not sure about how file specs change from version to version, but I know I like versions later than 8 more. ;)

On a side note, I wish I could help you guys, but I'm a pretty neophyte programmer and would probably just get in your way.

With 2.1, I'll no longer have an excuse not to finish my models...  :(

Anyways, you guys still rock!

ASE Support (and OBJ support too), would mean almost direct export.

No Truespace anymore. ;)
It should also work with pretty much any MAX version. (I don't know about the really old ones though... ).


Actaully, it might even be possible to just re-export your files made for the MAX exporter, without changing anything, while you keep your complete POF setup (gunpoints, subsystems and stuff).

That way a lot of problematic POF files could be re-exported instantly in a minute, instead of hours or days.

New request: For the selected subobject, could we get a label telling us the subobject number as it the game would see it please? Things like the turret firing animation code want to know the subobject number of the turret doing the firing, and as is we kinda have to guess. ;)
