I'm guessing your code locks the window size to some percentage of the monitor's height, or a fixed pixel height regardless of resolution?  If it's percentage based the method could need some adjustment.

I believe it's a fixed pixel height, but I'd have to check.

What? That shouldn't be possible. The scrollbar should handle all size increases, and even if it didn't, the main window size is locked anyway.

Either way, I can't begin to imagine how you pulled that off.

Swing layouts are tough to get right.  It's not uncommon for something bizarre like this to happen.

hi guys, i just re-installed my linux distribution and run the installer again but I cant get the game to run. It says web cursor bitmap not found, although i tried the solution written in the wiki. Then i read that the installer does not have retail FS2. does that mean that i cannot play fs2_open as supplied by the java installer unless I also have the retail cds? Since I do have them, do I have to install the game from the cd first and then use the installer or can i just copy some files over?

You should be able to get the necessary .vp files from the .cab files on the cds.  You need:

• root_fs2
• smarty_fs2
• sparky_fs2
• sparky_hi_fs2
• stu_fs2
• tango1_fs2
• tango2_fs2
• tango3_fs2
• warble_fs2

You should grab the cutscenes (all 10) as well, and put them in Freespace2\data\movies\.  Everything else you need comes with the installer.  I also would get the hud_[1-3].hcf files if you see them and drop them in \data\players\, since those are presets for the hud colors.  No one else seems to think they are important except me though

Unfortunately, to get at the cab files it looks like you will need to use Unshield, which is hopefully included in your distro's package manager.  Only way I can find currently to get at the necessary files.

It is a bit silly question. Those are retail FS2 files. Retail FS2 is God^TM or the equivalent omnipotent being described in one's religion. Therefore, those files are absolutely necessary.

many thanks! i can play again (though i had to install the game since i could not extract the files. unshield failed, though it shouldnt hmmm

now my next question, how can i restore my save points? i backed up my data players folder but my previous pilot is not recognised by the game...

oh and where are the cutscenes? i cannot find them in the data folder of my installation

EDIT: seems the new installation puts the player data on a different folder (at least in linux). I managed to uplaod my old player but my old games still dont show up. And while playing freespace 2 i got this error

They don't actually have to be on your HD though. FS2 will actually load those off of the CD if it can't find them elsewhere. Those files are the ones missed if you do a minimal install (along with Sparky_hi_fs2.vp) So it is quite possible to have the game work without them present.

However if you don't have them present the quality of the game will be hugely reduced as they are the sound and music VPs along with the command briefing animations.

THE INSTALLER DOES NOT INCLUDE RETAIL FILES.

At least not anymore. So yes. If you have a copy of FS2, install it. If not, buy one from Good Old Games for $5.99 and install it.

Most true, but I was indeed referring to the fact that the lack of those files devours a large portion of the gaming experience and therefore is not recommended.

Concidering that the MediaVPs consist mostly of models, textures and effects, yes. If you don't have stu, tangos and warble but have each and every 3.6.10 MediaVP (including MV_music), you are missing the command briefing animations and voice acting, but on the positive side you have some of the music tracks.

let em say "ni my copy of FS IS the retail, not a counterfeit, like most stuff found on the net, I just was at he right site at eh right time and was never charged for it I don't remember what site it was, been a few years. But I have it on 3 disks 1, 2, and 3

The link the installer uses for the Homesick mod needs to be updated because the current one is dead.  Other than that don't change a thing.  The installer simplified the process of updating my game greatly.  Many thanks to the creator of this tool.

Step 1. I installed Freespace - The Great War
Step 2. I installed Freespace 2
Step 3. I ran the installer and now have all freespace working again
