Ok, I may have screwed up, I hope I didn't.

I downloaded the FSO installer and installed BEFORE noticing the big friendly letters that told me I had to have a retail copy of FS2 first.

I am Downloading FS2 from GOG.com now, what I want to know is this:

1 Does this mean that I have to download FSO all over again.

2 How do I install FSO if I have purchased FS2 from GOG and do not have the discs, as the friendly Wiki Page implied was neccisary.

3 Do I need FS2 in order to run FS1 port on FSO or can I do that anyways.

I just rewrote a large chunk of the Wiki instructions for the installation process, could you please be more specific about which part was confusing so I can expand on it?

If you already installed FSO somewhere, either install FS2 from the GOG exe file to that directory, or copy everything from that directory to where you install the GOG version.  The FSO installer just adds files to the existing FS2 install directory, so you can just combine them.

As chief1983 said, no. Either install FS2 over your current FSO installation or install FS2 somewhere and copy/move all the FSO stuff to the FS2 installation.

The same way. You just have a no-disc version at your disposal. Actually, on the Support board you can find a manual for installing FSO. A manual that I wrote with my own blood.

FSPort is designed so that it runs with FS2, but additional features are achieved when playing it with FSO. But yes, FS2 is an absolute must.

I just finished burning my copy of FS and FS 2 that I got from GOG onto disks, replacing my old ones that were just about non readable anymore anyway, but just for the record, heres what i do when i download the latest and greatest installer from here, I burn the installer onto a rewritable disk every time , just in case.

i might have screwed up, or maybe my original copy is bad, but i just installed FSO, and when i try to run, its missing a dll. OpenAl32.dll to be exact. after it says the program is not working and must be closed, it says it cannot read flags. im running vista 64 if thats a problem.

In case you didn't notice, I finally got around to adding in the 3.6.10 mediavps. I haven't tested them, and I'm not going to, so tell me if you have any problems not already addressed in the mediavp thread.

Anyway, I probably won't be doing much this quarter, since I'm currently enrolled in the most difficult class in the entire computer science department. I'm halfway through my first project, which is writing a series of test cases to catch 21/26 bugs in a program, except we have no idea where the bugs are, and it's a huge program. So far I've found 10 bugs, and the project is due 7am Monday.

Well Turey, so far the 3.10 Media vp's work just right on my computer. the only problem I'm having is my lack of speaker volume since my sound card bit the dust last week.

I don't think so either, my FS problem requires about $30 for a new sound card, or I can always reinstall teh realtek sound driver that I used when I first slicked vista off here and installed XP

Noticed one small problem with the 3.6.10 MediaVP part of the installer.  If you have the MV_Complete.vp it doesn't notice it and adds the individual files to the download list.

hello, i am trying to install freespace 2 but i dont know how the derelict works:

REQUIREMENTS AND NOTES
You can update your installation by simply running the Installer again. It will only download files that are out of date.

The Installer requires an internet connection to install. This is because:
1. It checks to see if it is out of date by pulling the number of the most recent version off of the web.
2. It automatically takes you to the download page of the most recent version if your version is out of date.
3. It makes sure all the files are up-to-date.

This Installer SHOULD work on top of an old self-installed FreeSpace Open setup, but I don't take any responsibility in the unlikely event that it screws up something.

The Installer now includes a Derelict option. However, if you installed Derelict yourself, you may need to stick this into your Derelict folder to make Derelict work with this Installer.

Do you already have Derelict and FreeSpace Open before running the installer?

If so, create a Derelict folder in your FreeSpace 2 folder, and put Derelict's files in there. The FSO executables go in FS2's root directory. If you have any MediaVPs, make a MediaVPs folder in your FS2 folder ant put those in there. Use the FSO Launcher to configure FSO, by selecting your mod folder as your Derelict one.

I wouldn't know how to help if you're using the installer now, I haven't used it myself.

I only find now fs2 open, i played this game years ago ... nowodays i dont have time to computer games but for this ....

SO THE PROBLEM: i downloaded and installed 3.6.9. i start the luncher put mediavps into the mod section and run, the problem is that when i go to play singleplayer its start the filling process than it brokes down and exit to windows and nothing happenes :S WHY???? please help me cos i wanto to try the new graphics :S

Do you have the retail files in your main FreeSpace2 folder? root_fs2.vp , sparky_fs2.vp etcetera?
