Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Emm, not to be stupid, but I'm probably going to be anyways...
Would using MS .Net Framework cut down on the size for the .exe installer?
Be aware I have no clue what would be required to do that, so I'm just suggesting this blindly.  Tell me to go sit in the corner if it won't work.  :) :b

Probably not. Also, I'm not touching .net with a ten foot pole.

It's not architecturally any more clumsy than the java you are using my friend. C# basically is a slightly nicer version of java anyway.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Installer updated.

Changes:
Version Strings for mods are now case-insensitive.
quiting halfway through has been improved.

To everyone with a Mod in the Installer:
Goober, Axem, and Soulstorm are the only ones who are hosting their own text files. The rest of you need to follow their wonderful example.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Installer doesn't appear to be working, Turey.  It gets stuck at downloading a FSPort and a few of the install components get stuck and need to be Xed out so you can get to the next one

Could you be a bit more specific? Which files aren't working?

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Sorry,

Some components get "stuck"  When going through the component-by-component install process, a window will pop up for a component and freeze there.  It's simply a blank white window with a title like "Freespace 1 training missions"  Xing out of it will allow the next window to pop up.  Freespace training missions does this, along with awakenings.

After Xing out of the ones that don't work and selecting the files you want, the installer does this

It stays stuck there.  I've let it run for an hour and it doesn't move.

If it helps, I'm using Vista.  I originally ran the update for an hour or so where it was working fine (except freezing on the Awakenings and FSPort Training missions windows) but had to leave and turn off the computer, and started the installer back up when I came back.  I'm going to try deleting everything and starting from scratch to see if that helps.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Still no dice.  It didn't even ask me if I wanted Awakenings this time.  Also, it froze on Music.  I've included a screenshot of where it's messing up if that helps.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Are you using the .exe Installer? Did you make sure to extract the "rt" folder along with the .exe?

If you are using the .exe version, try the .jar version. If you are using the .jar version, try the .exe version.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
:p it's prolly the .exe that's stuck, the .jar one has always been  in my experience (the only one I use)

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I was using the .exe installer.  I did extract the rt folder as well, I extracted everything.  I'm using the .jar version now and there were no issues during the selection process for what components to install.  I'll let you know if everything downloaded okay.

Thanks!

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
.jar version worked fine!  Thanks for the tip.  Not sure if it's a Vista thing or it's a "Agentbolt is a moron" thing that was causing the .exe to not work.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Just a little bit of news. I've started working on the final GUI for the Installer, and I've made substantial progress so far (at the cost of progress on my work for BtRL. Sorry Kara!  :blah: ) and I plan to finish by sometime in March (or if something goes wrong, April). The exact date will depend on how much the demands of RL (and BtRL) weigh on me.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
A first look at the next version of the Installer.

Check is out here.

It doesn't actually install anything, as I've only finished the first three pages, but still.

Now to finish the other three pages.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
[DW]-Hunter is having some trouble with the amount of bandwidth being used, and the Installer is the main culprit.

To help him out, I've temporarily removed the MVE Cutscenes (FS2 only. If he continues having problems, I'll contact Goober about taking out the FS1 MVEs as well.) from the Installer. They are very large files, and many people were downloading both sets of cutscenes, MVE and OGG. Since the MVEs are bigger, they were chosen for temporary removal.

Sorry about this.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
...Maybe you could, instead of having it ask for both sets, ask which set you want (MVE or OGG).  Whichever you choose is the one you get.  And make it clear that the .OGG files are usually the way you want to go.  I dunno, maybe that would work.  Of course, then maybe everyone would just get the .MVEs, who knows.
What do you think?

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I caved and downloaded 3.6.9

First I dl'ed the retail installer (my disks crapped out early) and got that set.
Then I got the open AL and other files (set)
Rand open installed and figured out how to make it work (set)

Tested it and FS2 open runs (YAY!) I skipped 2 training missions and completed the first real mission with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!

Problem... I wanted to start modding it (port my stuff) so I ran a couple of mods via the launcher to get used to this again (first tried port, then homesick)
No mod pic shows up in the box and when they run it's normal fs2.

Did I forget to do something?

[Plus why is the ini file launcher 6 and the launcher itself 5.4 or something like that?]

This was a completely new install to C:Games/Freespace2, so nothing weird should be going on like my other installs to wacky places that work fine.

Any ideas?

Did you go to the Campaigns menu inside FS2 and select the campaign you want?

DOH!!!! "Heavens to Mergatroid, how embarrasking!"

(I'm too spoiled with skipping that step).  works fine now though I ironically tried the only two mods that don't have a mod ini file that allows media vp's. I thought at first something was wrong cause they had no glow, shine etc.. :)

DEM and Homesick. I supposed copy and pasting with slight altering would work for another mod's ini file.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I've almost finished the next version of the Installer. You can try it here:
http://www.fsoinstaller.com/Installer_mostlyGUI.jar

It's fully functional, there's just a few more features I'd like to add, and I'd like to test it more throughly.
