As me mum says, empty vessels make most noise. :)

It's really very simple, Kaz; insulting people will not win you any respect or support, only lose it.  It doesn't matter what your own opinion is, the way you act will colour peoples opinions of you and in turn what you say.  What you have to decide is, do you want to even try and change opinions, sway those who haven't made their minds up - or alienate everyone with even the slightest difference of opinion?

You know, I think, that I agree with you on a lot of things.  And yet, when you rant and rave, and insult people like this, I can't but feel myself drawn to disagree with you.   For me, that says all that needs to be said.

Can we please keep things civil?

it's not very civil for them to be supporting bigotry against me,
it's not civil for them to be supporting neofascists,
it's not civil for them to think that they have the right to vote their religious **** into government

so what is less civil? chewing someone out, or supporting theofascism
So two wrongs make a right?

he's already made his mind up to support the fascists*

(the republican policies have all 14 characteristics of fascism... if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck...)

Shockingly, Kaz, people can change their mind in later years.  Or, people may read this thread, and it may sway their vote.  Now, who do you think - to the newly politicised and undecided young-un - is making the most rational sounding 'pitch';Nix - who pops up and says 'I think I'll vote republican this time'.

Or you -  the person calling Nix fascist, 'freedom-hater', 'laghing at' and evil - in both bold and ALL CAPS (thankfully not red font or underscored words yet)- for merely expressing an opinion which like it or not it his democratic right to hold?

Generally speaking, I don't believe most neutral observers would view the side of 'right' to be the one that effectively calls the others enemies of the state.

anyone who would vote for the republicans at this point is a lost cause - hopelessly stupid and completely disconnected from reality.

That's exactly the type of attitude I'm referring to.  There are some people, y'know, who are undecided.  There are some people perhaps voting republican because they're first time voters and have seen information - lets for the sake of argument take your position of assuming unquestioned supremacy of one party over the other - only from one side, or from their Republican voting parents, etc.  Or there can be people hedging their bets; unsure about who to vote for and going with an incumbent.  Or traditional Rep. voters, unhappy with their party, but unsure of the benefits by voting for another.

In all thoses cases, provision of sensibly explained, intellegible and above all polite information as to your case might indeed be enough to sway opinions - because not everyone is as entrenched as you are.  Whilst the concept of shuffling everyone who disagrees with you into the 'idiod' box is a very convenient and unchallenging way of looking at the world, it's also a highly blinkered one.

Of course, you've just called them Evil Un-American Fascist Fanatic Talibans, so no chance of that now....

the truth is often unpolite

i'd just as soon shoot someone who would vote republican as look at them at this point - they've trampled my rights for six years and i'm quite frankly sick and tired of it and i don't have the patience left to be polite to these assholes

you couldn't have not noticed that i've slowly, but surely, become more and more angry and less and less polite over the past six years.

well.. electoral-vote.com is projecting
senate: 51 democrats, 49 republicans
house: 239 Democrats     195 Republicans     1 Tie

so if that happens tommorow, my disposition will hopefully start becoming sunnier again :D

eh, don't count on the Democrats taking control of the senate. Them taking the senate really depends on Virginia. It is 48-Webb 49-Allen. Both canidates are absolutly dreadful and depends which canidate turns stomachs more: Mr. Muccaca or the Sexist that writes naughty books. The House is more likley though.

My state lights up red immediately after voting closes for the day.  Luckily, that's what I would vote, so it doesn't really make a damn bit of difference if I vote tomorrow or not.  It's about the only thing I like about this state.

What state do you live in?

Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.

And, if the projection for the Hoosier elections are the way they are, you'll see me very happy by 6:30 tonight. ;)

Can we please keep things civil?

You know, Kaz, not every single Republican is a theofacist who wants to ban gay marriage or renew the Patriot Act. Chill out, it all depends who he voted for.

and that's, yet another, inredibly stupid reason to dislike someone

"omg! he wrote a book! it contained activities that i don't agree with! since he wrote the book that means he automatically agrees with the practices! i'm going to vote against him because he writes books that reflect reality"

we all know everyting author's write in their books are things that they agree with, I mean just look at 1984!

Like it or not it is politics. But, that really is only a minor tarnish on his record. The article in the washingtonian in 1979 was blazingly direspectful. Yes 1979, a long time about vs. Muccaca which was 3 months ago. Still if it wasn't for the article he would be trouncing Allen.
