i mean one that absoustly scared the S H I T out of you!.

mine: by far it has to be system shock 2 and thief 2, by the same people and same engine but it lost none of that hall mark trait that LG had. it has that errey quietness from both titles and just damn right good music to put with ss2, on the right decks at the right time.

hehe, i remember once on deck 4, PSI OPS, i was in a crew quarters i just came out when i heard a assassin. at the time i only had 22hp. i was sat there for 10 minutes figuring out what to do, so i went in the grav shaft, i went to shoot it and 5 other assassins were around and killed me. they scared me good!.

i also remember on thief 2, i just killed a mechanical droid, and 2 guards ran after me! i was running like crazy to get away from them, and i wasnt paying attention and... well... i fell off the building, that scared me good :drevil:.

The Scariest games i got have to be System Shock 2, Silent Hill 2 and Clive Barkers Undying esp when those howlers just jump at you from the ceiling, everytime i play i keep forgeting to look up. What ever happend to the Horror genre on the PC, you just don't get that many these days.

Wondering when I last saved everytime Gothic 3 crashes is pretty scary...

Dark Messiah is actually pretty tense in places, especially at first when you are trying to get out of a house and onto some castle walls whilst being pursued by undead :)

The first time I played FEAR while not being used to all the random encounters I was scared ****less by some of them.

Like while crawling in a vent or something, suddently you see Alma coming at full speed at you just for a vent to blow and cover the whole thing in smoke.

But that's just while one is not used to it, so... I'd guess it would have to be AVP2. The marine's first levels just creeped me out. Not a single enemy... just walking. Quite an acomplishment.  :shaking:

Let's make this clear. System Shock 2 and Silent Hill 2 are both horror masterpieces. Everyone should play though them both at least once in their life. Though in the case of Silent Hill 2 that might result in a small increase in the rate of suicides. Past those the only other games to ever scare me are... in order... Dungeon Master, Project Xenomorph, Half Life 1, and Call of Cthulhu. The last one is hit and miss but does feature the what I believe to be the single scariest sequence in a game which involves escaping from a hotel.
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

The scariest for me was the first Aliens vs Predator, it has a much darker atmosphere. I was playing with the marine when a facehugger got me, I screamed because I didnt even it coming. :shaking:

FEAR really has a good atmosphere, everytime the lights started flickering and this weird sound appears I stopped moving. The most shocking moment was when I climbed down a ladder, turned around and some zombie-like creature was standing in front of me. Almost emptied my gun on him before I realized that it was just an illusion.

AVP also had some cool moments. Everytime I opened a door I freaked out because of the nice "ping" on the movement sensor.  :shaking:

I have never played a game I would consider scary. I'm too busy looking for glitches to be scared by anything. :D

First time I played that game, i had full EAX surround sound on, dark room so the only thing you could see was the screen.  I kept hearing hissing from behind me, and when id turn around id get hit from the direction i had just been facing.  Scared the hell out of me

maneuverable ? pfffft. Look at the Basilisk or Aeshma (i think thats how its spelt) . I dont know what class of fighters they are (Heavy assault), but they fly like a retarded seagull.

Obligatory nomination of SS2, although I have yet to complete it.

And of course the marine campaign of AvP2. There are many scary passages when you're stumbling around in the dark, concentrating on your motion tracker, and then you hear that 'blip' from it ( I love it how they got the sound effect exactly like in the movie) and you get very tense.

But the scariest part was when you have enter the seemingly deserted alien hive, trying to rescue one of your teammates. You find her only to see that it's too late and that you have to kill her. By torching her you wake up the hive ... hissing noises start coming from all directions, the motion tracker pickung up more and more signals. You start running towards the exit, the hissing and screeching getting louder. You make it out of the hive and continue running towards the APC, you turn around just to see dozens of xenomorphs emerging from the opening you just used to get out, a wave of black insectoid terror leaping at you.

The first time I played that part, my heart sank as I launched grenade after grenade into them, but still got shred to pieces.

Fatal Frame, while a silly premise (taking photos of ghosts with an old camera gets rid of them?), still sufficiently creeped me out playing alone in the dark late at night. Never bothered to finish it though.  :nervous:

I think it was AVP 2 that got me to the point where I would occassionally panic and empty my clip due to the ambient sound.

That hotel....that scared the damn crap out of me. I felt like i was inside the movie 'Shining' . ....red rum....red rum !

Doom 3 was hella scary, first time round. F.E.A.R was same deal. Alot of scripted scenarios meant to make you piss your pants, but once you've played it , it isnt scary the 3rd or 4th time round.

I reckon shock-horror FPS games have alot to offer, if pc game companies get around to realising it....

Doom 3 was cheap "BOO! HAHAHA!" scary. It makes you jump; shock, not fear.

Heh, it's pretty good. I wouldn't call it an RPG as such, it plays kinda like Half Life 2, not surprising considering it runs on Steam using the Source Engine, combat is far more involved than normal, you'll spend a lot of time running away or looking for things to throw, or standing on a landing so that you can kick them down the stairs. There's more or less no let-up to the action, unlike an RPG, if you're stuck on a section, you can't go level up doing something easier, there's no real freedom of  choice, though there are levels and skills to choose from, but skill points are awarded not for experience but for completing objectives.

Basically, it is a good game, but don't be fooled by the RPG tag, it's no more a 'Role Playing Game' than, say, playing Lara Croft in Tombraider, you are playing a role, but it's not a sandbox type game, you have a set path to follow.

Also, you need a good graphics card and system to run it properly, I have 1.5 Gigs of memory, an X1600 on 8*AGP and an 3.2 Gig processor and still get stuttering on anything above low to medium settings.
